Rising from the crystal waters of the Gulf of Siam, Koh Samui is a tropical paradise just off Thailand's South Eastern coast. The island's mountainous interior is coated in a tropical jungle with rugged trails that offer spectacular views. The whole island is surrounded by beautiful white sandy beaches and azure water.
Samui is Thailand's third largest island at 247 square kilometers. And it's part of an archipelago of many other islands, including Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and the Ang thong National Marine Park. Samui is renowned for its tropical beaches, coconut palms, a wonderful variety of spa facilities, exotic nightlife and friendly people. The island also has an amazing choice of restaurants, offering local and international cuisine that would be hard to match anywhere in the world. Samui seems to cast its magic spell on everyone who encounters it.
The island's 50 km ring road offers tantalizing glimpses of Samui's gorgeous beaches, it takes you through sleepy fishing villages and seas of coconut palms. It also passes Samui's most impressive waterfalls and provides tempting turn-offs in the highlands. Yet most visitors are content to laze the days away on the beaches, soaking up the sun and cooling off in the turquoise waters.
Samui may have a relaxed, laid back atmosphere, but the jungles and beaches offer every activity imaginable. The island has an exhilerating array of water sports such as snorkelling, scuba diving, sea canoeing, kite boarding and fishing. There's also mountain biking, horse-riding, elephant trekking through the jungle, tennis and even bungee jumping available for those seeking energetic entertainment. And an excellent golf course is available for a more gentle form of exercise.
Sunny skies and calm seas prevail for most of the year. The southern part of the island, where Villa Crystal is located, remains largely unspoiled, compared to the north of the island. The villa offers a tranquil setting for nature lovers to feel at home, situated amidst a tropical paradise with amazing granite boulders.
Regular connections from Samui airport give easy access to the rest of the world. Direct connections to Phuket, Pattaya, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur already exist with more destinations planned for the future.
Villa Crystal is located at Sitara Retreat which is situated close to the southern tip of the island. Nearby to the villa many of the island's main attractions are only a short drive away, which include Lamai beach, Butterfly Garden, Waterfalls, Aquarium, Elephant trekking, Grandmother, Grandfather Rocks, amongst others. There are many fine and varied restaurants serving Thai and Western dishes, all within 5-10 minutes drive from the villa.
The southern part of the island still has that rustic charm appeal that the whole of Samui boasted years ago. The beaches on the south remain undeveloped, due mainly to the shallow coastline. If you like to explore you can still find areas where you have the beach to yourself, and never too far away you will find a Thai restaurant where you can enjoy true authentic local dishes.
Villa Crystal is a 2-3 min drive, or 15 min walking distance (which is steep in a couple of places) to Laem Sett beach. This is a quiet and secluded beach and here one can admire a beautiful sunset, and see the local fishermen, with their long tailed boats, come into shore. Also located on the beach is the rustic Thai style Cool Bar when you can enjoy good food and a drink whilst soaking up the tranquil atmosphere. Within this charming area of Laem Sett there are several fine restaurants, serving both delicious Thai and European food and a few small, quiet bars.
Also close by is ShaSa Resort, Centara Villas and Samui Orchid which opens its doors to non residents and has many facilities to enjoy, including smart restaurants and bars.
Five to Ten mins away by motorbike or car, you have the fishing village of Baan Hua Thanon where fresh fish, fruit and vegetables are sold daily at the local market, together with small local shops, 24-hour Seven Eleven store, doctors surgery and a Chinese Temple, amongst other things.
It is a condition of Sitara Retreat that a 4 x 4 vehicle (or moped) is required to drive on the estate. We can assist in the hire of these vehicles at a competitive price. Click the link to our website for details. The roads are also quiet around this area, unlike the busy north of the island.
If your intentions are not to hire a vehicle or moped, taxis can pick you up at the entrance of Sitara, which is a 4 or 5 minute walk down the hill.
