The Algarve region

The central area of the Algarve has been developed more intensively. The coastline here changes to one of reddish/brown sandstone cliffs interspersed with rocky outcrops leading down to long beaches of golden sand.

There are many developments of villas and apartments. However, the relatively sparse population combined with the many beautiful beaches and coves ensure that there are still peaceful areas of beach even in the peak summer season.

West of Falesia with its long stretch of beach the coastline changes to a series of sandy coves and holiday resorts such as Olhos de Agua and Praia de Oura. Beyond Albufeira the rocky red headlands are particularly attractive and have spawned resorts like Sao Rafael Castelo and Gale each with its small coved beach backed by craggy eroded rock faces and dominated by mainly villa developments.

Local shops, bars and restaurants fill every corner of Albufeira. There is also the old castle, buildings with Moorish arches and many churches, such as the interesting Sao Sebastiao. In this town you can pretend that you are part of the jet set or just laze around in the sun. Around here there are a great number of restaurants, bars and night clubs in and around Albufeira. There is a water slide park and zoo marine within a short drive for the children. There are many beautiful golf courses also available.

Best holiday place in the country growing popularity clean and friendly.

The Vilamoura area:
Consult the literature in the Apartment for a good indication of what can be found locally.

Bicycle rental is easy, but tiring in the hot summer. Sea fishing trips from the marina, which can be combined with coastal sight-seeing the caves and inlets, are good fun. The Zoo is well attended, the Water Park even more.
There is sociable Anglican Church (9:30 am, Sundays) just outside Almancil, the local town.

Try buying the English newspaper "The Resident" (weekly out on Thursdays), for most local events and attractions.
