The Isle of Wight has many and varied attractions, the dinosaur excavation sites dating back 120 million year, Roman Villas, Carisbrooke Castlewhere Charles 1 was iimprisoned and Osborne House, country home of Queen Victoria. There are miles of beautiful beaches andgood walking and cycling tracks. The island holds two pop festivals a year as well as many other smaller events such as The OldGaffers fair at Yarmouth. Seaview Regatta and Cowes week provide plenty of nautical interest, as well as the power boat raceand the "round the island race".
Shanklin has some of the best beaches, they are safe for bathing and stretch along to the next resort of Sandown and beyond. There are some fantastic walks over the downs to Ventnor and Wroxall, with plenty of pubs or cafes to while away the odd hour.
