Stunning Mountain range... The skiing in Borovets is not for the hardened expert, it is excellent for the beginner through to intermediate, with great ski schools for children provided in a variety of languages, lessons private and group, creche facilities and perfect nursery slopes. There is also plenty for the intermediate skier or boarder, hop on the gondala and away you go.
Out of the ski season Borovets provides a quite retreat in the foot hills of the Rila Mountains. Hiking is by far the most popular summer activity as the Rila Mountain range boasts some of the best mountain scenery in Europe with many unspoilt areas. Mount Moussala (2925m), the highest mountain in the Range can be reached by hiking straight from Borovets or you can take the gondala half way and hike from there.
Plenty of other activiities available including Tennis, Fishing, Water sports, Horse Riding, Mountain Biking etc.
Borovets is the oldest mountain resort in Bulgaria which has in the past gathered the skiing elite of the world, situated at 1350m above sea level on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountain range amongst age-old pine woods, its history is said to originate back in 1896 when the then mojor of Samokov built a mountain chalet on the mountain in hope of relieving the suffering of his wife sick with tuberculosis.
Borovets has everything you need for your holiday, from supermarkets, to restaurants, however a short trip by bus (extremely cheap!) or taxi to the local town of Samokov will provide bigger supermarkets, local markets and an insight into Bulgarian life.
