Fire Island is a 35mile long barrier island located just off the South Shore of New York's Long Island. It is an island of many diverse communities. The house is located in a community called Lonelyville, one of the oldest on Fire Island. There are no cars permitted on Fire Island, the house comes with 4 bicycles - getting around is a joy in itself.

Our house is one removed from the Great South Bay, one block from the Atlantic ocean and the best family beach 1.5 hours from Times Square. This newly renovated house is stylish, comfortable and peaceful. We are a ten minute bike ride from Fair Harbor, where you will find The Pioneer Supermarket, Le Dock Restaurant and Liquor Store, the UnFriendly's Ice Cream stand, the Pizza shop and Corliss's General Store. Everything you may need is available on the island in Fair Harbor. The restaurant is excellent, the Pioneer carries the best prepared food, bread, produce fish and meat/chicken.

After a 25 minute ferry ride from Bay Shore to Dunewood, you are three blocks from the house. Bay Shore is a pleasant train ride from Penn Station on 34th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan. Trains are frequent and on time and scheduled to meet most ferries.

The house is fully equipped. New dishwasher, fridge with ice maker and a new stove are just part of the renovated bright kitchen. Linens, towels, dishes, utensils, pots and pans are all included. There is a washer/dryer inside the house. Each room has a ceiling fan. A wood stove in the Living Room will warm the house on chilly nights - few and far between. An outdoor gas grill is provided for grilling on the spacious deck. Deck furniture is stylish and comfortable. The outside shower is a real treat after a day on the beach - hot and cold water.

The dining area, adjacent to the open kitchen, has a picture window with a view of the Great South Bay. The dining table will comfortably seat twelve. The living room has a large sofa and love seat. A flat screen TV, with Satellite and NetFlix and CD/iPod is opposite the couch in the built in book case. There is DSL and WiFi.

USA East Coast

Fire Island is a barrier Island 35 miles long, a 20 minute ferry ride from Bay Shore, Long Island, NY. Our charming cottage is located in the town of Lonelyville - yes Lonelyville! It is a community of 21 houses. The house is located three blocks from the Dunewood Ferry Dock., a two minute walk. We are the second house from the Great South Bay. At the end of our street there is a dock with a bench - a perfect spot for Cocktails and the Sunset.

Other than emergency vehicles and homeowners with permits, there are no automobiles permitted on Fire Island. We walk or bike or take water taxis to visit other communities. We are located close to the Western End of Fire Island. The town of Fair Harbor, a ten minute walk and less by bike, is where you will find a supermarket with wonderful prepared foods, artisanal breads, fresh produce, meat, chicken and fish; all of the highest quality. You will also find UnFriendly's Ice Cream stand, LeDock Restaurant (mainland quality), Loading Dock Liquors, Corliss General Store and the Pizza Shop. The restaurant has outdoor seating and spectacular views of the Sunset over the Great South Bay.

Fire Island is the "anti-Hamptons". No dressing up, nowhere to show off the Jag. We are a "shoes optional" community. Peaceful and relatively quiet. LeDock has the one bar in town and turns itself into a "disco" after 11pm on weekends. The volunteer fire house hosts pancake breakfasts, bingo nights and movie nights for kids and their parents. Kismet, the Western most town, 20 minutes by bike, has two Bar/Restaurants and live music.

There is a bay beach in Dunewood with a lifeguard (closest to our house), a lovely spot for kids and their parents. Lonelyville also has a bay beach and Fair Harbor has a bay beach with lifeguard and spectacular playground for kids.

The Atlantic ocean is 1 1/2 blocks from our house, with lifeguards on duty every day.
