The Old Forge Cottage provides an ideal base for exploring this part of southern England; Longleat (Marquess of Bath's stately home and safari park), Stonehenge and Stourhead (world famous gardens laid out in the 18th century) are no more than 20 minutes' drive while the New Forest, Cotswolds and South Dorset coast are all reachable in an hour.
The market town of Warminster provides for all local shopping needs and has a rail service to London, Waterloo. This part of Wiltshire also boasts some stunning countryside especially along the Wylye valley, and there are a number of excellent village pubs within a 10 mile radius. Heytesbury itself has two pubs within walking distance of the cottage, a small PO stores and a church.
