Andalucia is a stunning and varied region of Spain, from the coast with the lovely sandy beaches, to the fantastic range of golf courses available throughout the area, the amazing ski ing in the Sierra Nevada, and the culture of the cities to name a few local to our Area, Malaga, Granada, Cordoba, Seville and Antequera. Birdwatching, walking, cycling are all popular throughout the region, we are on the GR7 trail, and actually feature in the route guide written by two young Scottish ladies who stayed with us when they completed the walk and wrote their guide. Horse riding is very popular around here and of course the local tapas bars offer authentic Spanish food. During the summer months Cuevas De San Marcos reaches very high temperatures and during winter we usually have one frosty day, but the rest of the time the climate is not so bad. Warm coat and boots and it is more than comfortable to move around outside. The village has numerous festivals throught the year but to name a few, Three Kings on the 5th January, February 28th is a bank holiday celebrating el dia de Andalucia, which is Andalucian Day, Easter Parades take place when ever Easter falls. April 25th is San Marcos day, when the whole of the village moves to the lake and camps, barbecues and drinks around the lakes all day, there is usually a lot of entertainment taking place also. August 11th is the start of our Feria, where the whole village celebrates with various activities and shows for 5 days and 5 nights. Very little sleep during that period. December 6th, bonfires are lit in the street to celebrate San Miguel, and people cook and drink around the bonfires, usually for 2 to 3 nights. There are numerous other festivals throughout the year, too many to mention.
Our nearest golf course is in Antequera, 18 hole, superb course and very reasonably priced. Ski ing, Sierra Nevada only 1 hours drive away, Granada 1 hours drive which has the stunning Alhambra Palace to view. Cordoba only 45 minutes drive, numerous places of historical interest to visit there. Seville, fantastic architecture. The coast only 1 hours drive, with the lovely sandy beaches stretching all along the Costa Del Sol. Gibraltar an easy drive of around 1 and a half to two hours away.
