In the Crete Senesi, at the heart of a working organic farm, the two traditional farmhouses sleep six. La Casetta is a large open space for two: a double bed, living area and kitchen with dining table. Il Poderino has two double bedrooms, a living room, one bathroom and a kitchen with fireplace. Both are beautifully furnished with family pieces. This is an ideal place in which to enjoy the countryside in spring and autumn, far from the bustle of a city. The focus of farm activity is on the breeding of thoroughbred horses. Mares and foals graze in the fields and horses train on the farm's sand track. Situated within the Ombrone River valley, you can enjoy walks along its banks and in the surrounding woods. Here you will discover an unspoilt landscape of cultivated fields, abandoned farms, and many species of wild animals and birds. There are many good restaurants and trattorias serving magnificent local wines. Alternatively, you can have fun preparing dinner in the well-equipped kitchen with a fireplace for grilling. The Rapolano thermal spas are just a few minutes' drive away, and cultural cities such as Siena, Arezzo, Florence are within easy reach.

Its buildings, which are mostly of red brick, are conspicuous against the grey clayey and sandy soil—the Crete senesi which give this area of Tuscany its name. The great art city of Siena is only a short and scenic 20km car drive away. Like the Crete Senesi, Val d'Orcia is home to any number of beautifully conserved medieval hill towns, the likes of Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia and Bagno Vignoni, all of which are more than worthy of visit.
