The Hauts-de-France region

The North East of France is often over looked by British tourists in favour of Normandy and Brittany, but what a mistake.
With much shorter travelling times, you'd me missing a gem. Beautiful countryside, fantastic beaches, plenty of attractions and a unique French, rural character - the locals, or the Ch'tis as they are known, have the reputation of being the friendliest people in France.
There's plenty to do for all the family - from amusement parks to historic sites such as Agincourt.

Le Molinel is a hamlet in the commune of Tortefontaine. It's a quiet, rural location, but with other villages and towns within easy reach offering plenty for the holiday maker.
The market town of Hesdin is the nearest offering a characterful town centre as well as supermarkets.
Huge, golden beaches are 15 miles away at Berck, Fort Mahon and the picturesque Le Crotoy. For the more adventurous, Berck in particular is a centre for sand surfing, kite surfing and kite flying.
Children of all ages will love the Bagatelle amusement park (30 mins), the Aqualud water complex (40 mins.) and making dens in the 5.5 acres of pasture land that surround the house.
Golf courses abound.
The river Authie (which forms the border between Pas-de-Calais and Somme) is 200 yards from the house and is renowned by anglers, especially those seeking migratory fish such as salmon and sea trout. The road running parallel to the river is ideal for cycling and whether you ride, walk, run or drive through the many "Villages Fleuris" [floral villages], stop off and buy honey, meat, fruit and veg., paté or cider directly from the producers.
Shopaholics won't be disappointed by the chic resort of Le Touquet (40 mins) with its designer shops or the beautiful, "Venice-like" Amiens (1 hour), the region's capital Arras (45 mins), the walled old town in the port of Boulogne (40 mins.)and the Cité de l'Europe and neighbouring designer outlet centres by the channel tunnel (1 hour). Paris is just over 2 hours away. The smaller, quieter market towns of Hesdin (10 mins.), Rue (20 mins.) and Abbeville (30 mins) may be more to your taste, though.
Historians are well catered for - in easy reach are the battlefields of Crecy (5 mins.), Agincourt (30 mins.) and The Somme (1.5 hours), the military cemetery at Etaples (30 mins) [the largest commission cemetery in France], the secret city at Naours (45 mins.) [used by the Allies in WWI and the Germans in WWII as an HQ] and the abbey and stunning gardens at Valloires (5 mins.).
Music lovers will enjoy the weekend fesitival held in most towns at the end of June and August's Sons et Lumieres production of "Les Miserables" in the walled town of Montreuil (15 mins.) [where Valjean became mayor].
Alternatively, take it easy enjoying the scenery, wildlife and fine food and drink of the area with many good, affordable restaurants in easy reach.
