This is one of the sunniest parts of France - in fact it gets the second highest sunshine hours in the country after Provence - and you would pay a fortune for a villa there! The people are delightful and very welcoming to visitors and there are some wonderful restaurants in the areas which serve the most delicious meals at prices that don't empty your wallet. Within a short distance we have a lake with artificial beach, horse and pony riding, wind surfing, canoeing, hang gliding and le Velotrain, a platform on wheels that you pedal along a railway track through the woods. There is a busy market in our local town every Thursday morning and on the 27th of every month the second largest market in France is held only 10 miles away.
Rolling countryside, peaceful sunlit fields full of maize, vines and sunflowers. A lazy, self indulgent pace of life. Excellent wines and spirits including the local aperitif, Pineau de Charente. You couldn't ask for a better place to wind down and enjoy yourselves.
