Vallauris is the 'Potters Town' a typical French town with the old town at its heart. It is lovely to walk along the main street and see the many shops selling pottery there in all the glorious colours. There is a market in the square every Wednesday and Saturday well worth a visit with fruits and vegetables of the area for sale. There are a wonderful mixture of shops and restaurants to suit everyone and local supermarkets selling excellect fish and meat and all within easy walking distance of each other.
The old town is having a total makeover and its many winding streets are a great way to spend a few hours in. Vallauris is also the home to many artists and scuptors with visitors welcome to view or take part in the creation of pottery etc. There are also a number of little cafes, tea house and restaurants to while away the hours with a cafe creme or a petit carafe of wine. The food in the restaurants in Vallauris are very well priced and they are all between 5 and 10 minutes walk. A little further is Golf Juan and the port of Camille Rayon where you can sit and watch the beautiful boats come and go while you just rest easy.
The weather in this region is also wonderful and the beaches of Golfe Juan, Camille Rayon and Juan les Pins are very close. Cannes is under 10 minutes away and everywhere are the promenades to enjoy the weather also. The many palm trees testify to the the climate here and the profusion of flowers is a joy to see.
The train station is 5 minutes by car or a 15 minute walk to Golfe Juan where you can have a day trip to Nice, Monaco, Menton, Antibes and Valbonne. Vallauris is at the centre of the Cote d'Azure and the motorway is only 10 minutes to allow you to travel easily inland or to the mountains to visit Gourdon, Mougins and Valbonne easily. There are also buses which travel regularly throught Vallauris as another option to travel.
Vallaurist has various marches and festivals throughout the year with the Lemon Festival at Menton worth seing and Napoleon's landing at Golf Juan commemorated every year. There are also antique markets and ordinary markets held regularly throughout this area well worth a visit too. The sun comes up at 6.00 in the morning and last through to 7.00 at night a long day in the sun giving a lovely long day to take in the many activities and places to see in this area. Lounging on the terrace in the afternoon until the sun goes down having had a lovely lunch at the bistro five minutes away are happy memories and makes you want to stay on for a bit longer.
The Cote D'Azure is famous for the Cannes Film Festival, tennis at Monte Carlo and The Grand Peix in Monaco, sunny climate and beautiful beaches all within easy reach of Vallauris. Being near to so much you are spoiled for choice. Little villages such as Mougin with its glorious little winding streets, window boxes galore and fantastic views or Valbonne with its gorgeous French square full of little cafes and restaurants.
Nice is full of history and like Cannes has wonderful shopping areas or hop on the little train to see these towns and decide which part you would like to visit. There are promenades by the beach in not just Cannes and Nice but also Antibes, Juan les Pins and Cap d'Antibes has glorious beaches all within easy reach of Vallauris. Just as rewarding is a day on the terrace after picking up your croissants and papers from the shops below and enjoying the relaxation you crave. There are also a number of golf courses in the area and if you fancy from Golf Juan boat trips daily to various destinations from the local jetty. You might even fancy a lesson in saling or hire a boat for the day. Cycling and walking are also easily available as Vallauris is close to the promenades and cycling is a hobby for many in this area. There are also gardens available to visit, galleries and museums abound here too.
