Ilfracombe is located on the north coast of Devon, enjoying a mild climate and boasting spectacular scenery and a friendly welcome. Visitors have been returning for many years and yet still find new and exciting places to explore.
Come and meet Verity, Damien Hirst's statue, taller than the Angel of the North, overlooking the entrance to our picturesque harbour, nestled between St Nicholas Chapel to the west, a 13th Century Chapel sitting on Lantern Hill, and Hillsborough and the great sleeping elephant to the east, site of an old Iron Age fort. The Victorian town houses mingle with old pubs and smugglers' cottages, offering a glimpse of times gone by. Wander round the town and visit Ilfracombe Museum where children, and grown ups alike, can wonder at some of the most curious exhibits, such as the two headed kitten, and the Chocolate Emporium in the High Street with its museum explaining the history of chocolate making.
The Landmark Theatre along the seafront, less than five minutes walk from Westaway Villa, offers a wide variety of entertainment throughout the year, from musicals, comedies, drama, ballet, etc.
Ilfracombe is the gastronomic centre of North Devon, you just would not have enough time in one visit to experience all the great restaurants; a great excuse to come back.
Try your hand at deep sea fishing, or just enjoy a boat trip from any of our experienced boat tour guides along the Exmoor coast, or to Lundy Island. The Waverley visits Ilfracombe every summer for those who wish to take a trip on the world's last ocean going paddle steamer.
Those who like to don their walking boots are spoiled for choice for some of the most spectacular walks along the Devon part of the South West Coast Path. With easy access from the comfort of Westaway Villa, you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery across the Torrs to Lee. Enjoy a drink and meal at the Grampus Inn and stroll back, or catch a bus if you wish.
You can leave the car behind in our large car park and hop on a bus just across the road to take you to Woolacombe, Barnstaple, Bideford, Appledore, Westward Ho!, or to Lynton and Lynmouth on Exmoor and onwards to Minehead across Exmoor on an open top double decker bus.
