The cottage has two-bedrooms and three downstairs rooms: a fully equipped kitchen; a main sitting room; and a snug, complete with television and a real fire. It has oil central heating and a wood burner, so there is plenty of ways to keep you warm during Cumbria's wettest and coldest days.

There's a decent-sized garden, plenty of room for parking and over the garden wall is the village green with swings and slides. We are more than happy for you to bring your dogs and simply want people to use it as if it was their own. There are no hard and fast rules, we just expect for people to leave as they found it and replace any breakages.

The England region

If it's the Lake District you are after but away from the tourist hotspots, then Bluebell Cottage could be for you. Located in the small village of Ousby, the cottage is within half an hour of Ullswater and 20 miles from Keswick. It's also in the heart of the beautiful Eden Valley, the coast-to-coast trail and just 10miles from 'the Grand Canyon of the North' featured in ITV's Julia Bradbury's Best Walks With A View.

There's plenty more to do, including: watersports such as kayaking and sailing at Ullswater and Keswick; mountainbiking and Go-Ape at Whinlatter Forest Park, near Keswick; swimming pool at Penrith; steam railways; pony trekking; and outdoor adventure companies offering many activities such as climbing and canoeing.

Northern England

Ousby is a small village around seven miles from Penrith, with the Fox Inn at the end of the road. Just a mile away is the village of Melmerby, with its famous bakery and coffee shop.
