Koh Samui is Thailand's second largest island and lies off the west cost of the country in the Gulf of Thailand. Part of Surat Thani province the island is rich in natural resources and attracts in excess of 1.5 million visitors a year. The main attraction of Koh Samui is its coral reefs, white sandy beaches, untouched mountainous interior and year round climate with rains typically only seen in October and November. The island has its own privately owned international airport with daily flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Although a lot of the island has been developed, Koh Samui still has some untouched beaches and remote spots to enjoy. The island has super spa facilities, five star hotels and resorts, luxurious villa accommodation, budget style accommodation, local restaurants serving local fayre and fresh seafood as well as international standard five star restaurants. The island has many local attractions, superb nightlife and is only a stone's throw away from neighboring Koh Phangan. Koh Tao, which is popular with divers and the National Marine Park all of which can be enjoyed by day trips by boats also offering stunning sunset cruises. The laid back approach to life and the friendly locals have made it a popular retirement destination as well as a second home in the sun for people from every corner of the globe and such a wide range of long and short term villa rental options on the island it is not hard to see why.

Chaweng, on the east coast of Samui is fairly unforgettable and has a charm all of its own. The white sandy beach here goes on for miles and you can shop from the comfort of your beach towel as hawkers pass by with sarongs, ice creams, local goods, henna tattoos and some interesting jewelry. At night the beach offers a myriad of al-fresco dining next to the ocean. If you like to party then Chaewng will not disappoint. The Ark bar at the north end of the beach is world renowned for its beach parties and the Green Mango Soi as well as Green Reggae offer pubs and clubs that will take you through to the wee small hours. Chaweng has a handful of Ladyboy cabaret shows that are larger than life, noisy and vibrant, but harmless fun, for all the family. The dining and shopping opportunities are endless in Chaweng and there are hundreds of bars where you can meet ex-pats and visitors to the island or enjoy watching your favorite sport on one of the big screens. All of the big names are in Chaweng, Starbucks, McDonnalds, Pizza Hut and Swensons to name but a few. Chaweng has a boxing stadium, gyms and fitness studios and three international private hospitals. The north and south of Chaweng are much quieter and have some un-spoilt beaches if you are after a quiet afternoon away from the crowds. Chaweng has lots of accommodation to choose from, weekly apartment rentals, long and short term holiday apartments and villas, long term residential house and villa rentals and weekend holiday accommodation.
