A calm and beautiful area of rolling farmland, orchards and vineyards hosts medieval bastides, historic buildings, restaurants, markets, music, arts, tennis, golf, leisure lakes, canoeing and riding.
Raffet is a few kilometres from both Eymet [Dordogne] to the north (10 mins), and Miramont de Guyenne [Lot et Garonne] to the south (5 mins). Bergerac, Marmande, Issigeac and Duras are all about a half-hour's car journey. Most french towns have market days which offer a wide selection of local produce and tourist attractions. Some like Miramont are very french whilst Eymet has a significant lively english community too.
A wide choice of restaurants from haute cuisine to regonal fare, a lively italian pizzeria within 15 mins will tempt you away from your barbeque. Further afield are a michelin starred restaurant and the more exotic.
The vineyards of Bergerac/Monbazillac and Duras are all within 30 mins. The Grand Vins de Bordeaux are further but St Emilion (80 mins) is well worth the visit and the Medoc with its great chateaux is about 90 mins.

There is access to canoeing, tennis, and golf. Tennis and minigolf are very near at St Pardoux where [pre-booked] tennis/mini-golf is not expensive.
A 9-hole golf course is at nearby Tombeboeuf - you can hire clubs. There is an 18hole golf and country club at the Château des Vigiers, just 45 minutes north and near Villeneuve sur Lot, as well as a number of other courses at Marmande and near Bergerac.
Bastide towns abound all with interesting histories and there are a many picturesque rivers and villages all worthy of investigation.
Eating out can be very reasonable Seyches, Sauvetat du Dropt, Eymet, Duras, Lauzun, Monteton and Allemans have good restaurants.
The upmarket pizza restaurant in the square in Eymet is a lovely place to spend an evening watching the world go by. More restaurants are opening too.
There is also a petrol station, car wash, pharmacy and Roady [cars etc], at the same complex as the Intermarché supermarket.
FOOD and DRINK
Miramont de Guyenne is a delightful quiet French bastide small town with a tourist office and most amenities. It has a very good market on Mondays. The boulangeries and small supermarket are open on Sunday mornings.
Eymet, a little further and to the north, is very popular with a pretty square, and also has a regular market on Thursdays and a night market on Tuesday in the hight of the season. In Eymet you hear a considerable amount of English in the summer and in Miramont you hear more French.
There are accessible markets to visit almost every day - look out for wine and jazz festivals, barn sales, concerts etc.
Tourist offices have lots on offer. Issigeac market on Sunday should not be missed.
There is a large Intermarché complex a few kilometres away, just outside St Pardoux Isaac.
Spoilt for choice for wine, and apart from the supermarket huge choice and value, there are very good Caves for wine in Eymet and Miramont.
Take your own big plastic container and enjoy local wine at approximately 2.00 per litre or choose from the vast variety of wines. Loads of vineyards around - Duras, Montbazailliac, Bergerac, and further afield St Emilion, Pomerol, Castillon la Bataille and the Medoc/Haut Medoc beyond Bordeaux.
Bordeaux is an exceptional city and bears visiting often.
