Piana di Lucca

Lucca is one of the few towns in the world that keeps intact the wall fence, dated 17th century, all around the town. Lucca's inhabitants are used to say that inside the wall there are more than 100 churches,. Admire the beautiful "Palazzi", the mansion of the Lucca's noble, dating from 14th century, the museums, the botanical garden established in the 19th, century by Elisa Baciocchi, Napoleon sister, or just wandering around those very narrow medioeval streets and you will perceive a different atmosphere of quite. In town as well as in the surrounding of Lucca there are a lot of very elegant shops and restaurants or just cafeteria or gelateria for a pit stop. Don't forget Puccini! July and August are very special there is the Season at the Puccini Opera House in Torre del Lago (40 minutes from your home) and in July the world famous Summer Festival in Lucca. September is one of the best time to visit Lucca, more than the Puccini Opera played in the Teatro del Giglio, the theatre of Lucca, there are a lot of markets and many events: the most important is the "Procession for the Volto Santo" on September 13th, the biggest festivity of Lucca with at the end big fireworks and the town all lighted with candles where the procession pass. Many others things could be said about Lucca, the best is if you come and discover them your self!
