The Valais Region is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland, situated in the southwestern part of the country. To its south lies Italy and to the southwest, France. With the 10 highest mountains in Switzerland - all over 4000m - this scenic canton offers many pleasures and activities for those who enjoy the fresh air and mountain life.As well as the famous skiing on offer, the region also offers one of the country's key art centres in Martigny, and Sion is notable for its medieval core, dramatic castle and museums. This canton is also dotted with delightful high mountain villages and, lower down in the Rhône valley, vineyards that provide some of the country's best wines.
The biggest draw to the region is the Verbier ski resort boasting 410km of marked runs across 4 valleys, including Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Nendaz and Veysonnaz. It has one of the highest ski areas in Europe with the highest lift sitting at 3330m. There are extensive ski runs to suit all standards but the main attraction is the seemingly endless amount of off-piste. Much of the off-piste is easily accessible creating a veritable playground for the intermediate and expert skier. In the summer months, the ski slopes transform in to an impressive 200km of mountain bike piste and 400km of hiking trails, catering to all abilities. Favourable conditions offer a world class paragliding destination and over 300 days of annual sunshine gives you the opportunity to swim, play golf & tennis, mountain climb or just relax at one of the local spas.
