It is the newest Bulgarian winter resort, recently discovered by the foreign tourists. Bansko provides an interesting combination between the virgin nature of Pirin Mountain and the atmosphere of the ancient Bulgarian town.

Surrounded by the Pirin, Rila and Rhodopi mountains, Bansko is a climatic mountain resort with a short hot summer and long mild winter. The average temperature during January, the coldest month, is - 1.9?C. Snow falls are abundant, providing a constant winter snow cover up to 2 m thick. The skiing season along the Pirin slopes starts in the middle of December and ends in mid-April.

The Bansko / Predela area

Bansko is the gateway to the Pirin mountain region and offers an irresistible combination of high mountains and ancient history. The town centre founded in the 10th century is a world heritage site.

The resort offers good skiing from the end of December through to April and has the best snow conditions in Bulgaria with 160 snow cannons to guarantee this. It boasts 70km of marked pistes with exceptional off–piste and x-country skiing. The longest ski run is 16km from the top of the mountain right into town. Night skiing is also an option on 7km of floodlit slope from Banderishka to the village. Bansko has a first class Gondola and 25 km of modern high-capacity lift infrastructure for comfort and minimal waiting times. In addition, fans of extreme winter sports will enjoy the fun park and the half pipe that will give them an enormous adrenaline rush while showing off their latest tricks in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

There are a variety of ski schools to join. The Bansko Ski School is excellent, has English speaking instructors and ski classes for five levels. Children above the age of five can attend. Nursery and Ski school give attentive and adept care to children and teenagers, ensuring improved ski ability in a short time.

No one has to bother about not having the right ski or board equipment on arrival, as there are an abundance of equipment hire shops close to the Gondola and reasonably priced.

There are always a cosy restaurants ‘Mehanas’ or ski-bars close by, serving inexpensive tasty local and international dishes along with fresh drinks.

Although a mountain resort, temperatures in the summer are high, making this an excellent destination for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits. Additionally there is the annual Jazz festival held in August for those who enjoy live events.
