The Occitanie region

Maison Lafeuille is located in a village 15 minutes south of St. Cere (roughly equidistant from the Lot and Dordogne rivers) and 15 minutes north of Figeac. Gramat and Lacapelle-Marival, with their excellent local markets are nearby. Rueyres is on the edge of a National Park (parc naturel regional du Causses du Quercy). It is immediately surrounded by attractive hilly, wooded, farmland, but very close to the wild and characterful plateau of the Gramat Causse and near the majestic limestone valleys of the Dordogne and the Lot ( the latter with the additional attraction of fine vineyards). It sits on the border of three distinct regions; the verdant pastureland of the 'Limargue', the gorges, streams and forests of the 'Sťgala' and the wild landscape of the limestone plateaux that is the 'Causse'.

Whilst the summer weather is invariably hot, the temperate climate sustains a green and verdant countryside, rich in wildlife of all kinds and farmland that is regularly, but not intensively worked by local agriculteurs.

This region is renowned both for its gastronomy (spicy full-bodied Cahors, confits, foie gras, cŤpes) and for offering cultural and leisure opportunities to suit all tastes; historic towns, unspoilt villages, chateaux and museums, canoeing, biking and horse riding together with several famous prehistoric caves.

There are excellent local markets at Gramat and Lacapelle-Marival. Nearby, the famously perched village of Rocamadour is the "deuxieme site de France", whilst, further away, Sarlat is also a popular tourist destination.

Many fine examples of Romanesque architecture may be found at Conques, Carennac (right), Beaulieu, Souillac, Cahors and, further away, the cathedrals of Perigueux and Angouleme.

The region abounds with caves and pot-holes, many with prehistoric paintings, including the famous Lascaux (now facsimile) to the north, Cougnac Caves (near Gourdon), and the superlative PÍch Merle caves with ancient painting cycles to the south. The underground river in the "Gouffre de Padirac" can be explored by guided boat.

Lacapelle Marival

This is a good area for exploring on two wheels, and visitors taking mountain bikes have found good tracks for rough terrain riding on the Causse. Horse riding is also available at Thémines and Théminettes, and there are many footpaths in the Lot called Grand Randonnées (G.R.s), one of which passes through the village.
The river Dordogne provides many opportunities for canoeing, with hire centres at many places including Beaulieu, Port Loisirs and Souillac. Passenger trips on old barges are also available on the Lot from Cahors.
Tennis may be played at the camp site at Lacapelle-Marival, and also at Aynac. A nine-hole golf course is 15-20 minutes drive from Maison Lafeuille at Montal.
At the house, there are further details of sightseeing, sports and other leisure activities including childrens' attractions, such as Foret des Singes, Roc des Aigles, Reptiland, Feerie du Rail etc.
During the summer, guests can enjoy evening entertainment at one of the local jazz or music festivals in nearby Assier or St Céré or simply to sample the cuisine at one of the excellent local restaurants all the year round.
