The pretty and spacious courtyard is accessed through French doors from the sitting room and offers a relaxing and private area to eat, enjoy a drink and to have a barbecue.
Aquitaine region / Gironde & Dordogne areas
Aquitaine with its beautiful capital city of Bordeaux, is one of the great historic regions of France. It is also one of the largest and most varied regions of France, stretching from the foothills of the Massif Central in the north, to the Spanish border in the south, a distance of over 300 km.
In the Middle Ages, Aquitaine was allied with the Plantagenet Kings of England, and the region has many historic connections with the British Isles.
Gironde is wine country with Bordeaux at its centre. In total there are 57 wines labelled AOC - Bordeaux, Sauternes, Medoc & St-Emilion to name but a few.
Dordogne is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations within the Aquitaine region. There are many famous sights to visit including the prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Eyzies, les jardins de Marqueyssac (Marqueyssac gardens), Sarlat-la-Canéda (Dordogne's favourite and most beautiful medieval town) and many other sites of interest.
A real plus is that all amenities in Villefranche de Lonchat are within walking distance including a boulangerie (bakery) almost opposite so that you can buy your fresh bread every morning without having to get in the car.
Other amenities include a grocery,a bakery, a post office, two Bar-Restaurants, a pharmacy, a cashpoint and a weekly market.
It is approximately 5 kms (8 miles) to supermarkets where there is also a petrol station.
There are loads of small wine producers close by (caves, châteaux) where one can taste and buy the wine.
Of course the famous town of St Emilion is only half an hour away and offers a beautiful place to visit aswell as the opportunity of purchasing some very special wines.
Exploring the area taking the little roads, you'll come across people selling fresh eggs, honey and other local produce.

- “Le Marché de Ste Foy la Grande”. Rated as one of the top 100 markets in France taking place every saturday morning at Ste Foy la Grande.
- "La bataille de Castillon" a spectacular re-enactment of the last battle fought in the hundred years' war which took place at Castillon la Bataille in 1453. This unique event takes place on various dates during July and August and is an absolute must-see.
