The Dordogne region

Lush, green Dordogne valley and hills. Such a variety of trees and birds. Climate is warm, sunny and can be hot in July and August.
So many places of interest for historians, archealogists, artists and musicians and for the whole family lots of different types of attractions including outdoor woodland activity areas, picnic areas, the river with shingle beaches here and there to sit and enjoy. Domme where the Knights Templar were incarcerated during the 100 years war, forts and chateaux, caves where early man dwelled and even some were still in use in the 1960's!

Carlux

Sarlat with the medieval buildings, restaurants, shops and amazing cake shops! With several free music festivals including 21st June (annual national music festival), Quatorze Juillet (Bastille Day) with different types of musicians, bands and dancers around the streets and squares and a firework finale.
Souillac also has music festivals and particularly jazz in July.
Carlux has a music festival and their Fetes des Crépes is incredible in August.
Simeyrols opens the beautiful, tiny 14thC church for a concert in June and has a soiree on 28 August.
Most of the surrounding villages have fetes throughout the summer on Sundays and several have market days throughout the summer where traditional food is cooked and served in the evenings.
