The Isle of Wight is located in the English Channel just off the mainland of England and can be reached from the ferry ports of Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington. It is one of the sunniest parts of the UK and popular with holiday makers. In recent years many festivals and events have proved popular. Sailing and family holidays have been the tradition, but now include walking, cycling and music festivals, to name but a few.
Whippingham is the nearest small village and boasts a wonderful riverside pub and St Mildred's, Queen Victoria's local church. Whippingham has good conections to all parts of the Island. For walkers and cyclists there are various routes available on paths and smaller roads. The nearest town is East Cowes, 2km approx. with a range of shops including a large supermarket. Taking the chain ferry across the River Medina from East Cowes brings to the centre of sailing, Cowes. You will find a pretty high street with boutiques, and many eating and drinking opportunities. The Isle of Wight is about 30 miles wide, so you are never going to be far from home. There are good beaches, interesting places to visit and if you come for only one week you will have to return to finish your tour!
