La Cueva came into existence by joining a ruined house,a very neglected chicken pen and a total ruin.We renovated everything with lots of dedication and love to the detail, trying to incorporate local materials like wood, stone, reeds from the river, esparto(local woven grass) and terracotta.

The result are 2 holiday homes, both very rustic, as one unit with lots of Moorish charme, but at the same time extremely comfortable with all the amenities.La Cueva (La Estrella and El Sol ) is situated in the biggest of the 3 Guajar villages,20 mins from the coast and 1 hr from Granada. This is still a living white Andalusian village of mainly small farmers.Cool off in the solarheated Jacuzzi set into a cave with a waterfall, read a book in the pleasant patio or enjoy the magnificent views from the roof top terrace, where you have a choice of 2 shady pergolas.Or rock in one of the hammocks and let life go past. This place is as idyllic as it sounds, just lean back, relax and enjoy.

From the lower floor a very happy and bright staircase leads up to the living area, which is split into two levels. In the higher part is the pull-out-couch of high quality, which can very easily be converted into a comfortable doublebed. From the lower part a door goes into the master bedroom with a big doublebed.

The wooden beams on the ceiling give the whole room a very rustic and cozy atmosphere. This room as well as the attached bathroom are kept in a pleasant and cooling blue.Between bedroom and bathroom we set an antique window with stained glass to give it the mentioned flow. The mattresses as well as the whole bedding are of high quality. In summer we provide fans and hang mosquito nets over the beds to guarantee a peaceful sleep.
The bathroom is attached to the bedroom. It is very spacious and the big window make it a bright and happy place. The combination of a wooden beamed ceiling with reeds, the beams above door and windows, the terracotta floor and the blue and white tiles make it a rustic and very pleasant “wellness”room. The sink is set into a built-in unit which is covered with black slate, into the mirror above reach some stones, which gives it a special touch. The shower is with 90x100 very big and a built-in shelf offers lots of space for your shower utensils.
The 2nd bathroom can be entered from the patio and is shared with the guests of La Estrella. It also has wooden beams on the ceiling and over door and window is kept in green. Here you will find the washingmachine ,iron and ironing board.

Approaching La Cueva you already feel the special flair of the place! The whole property has a certain flow,a matching colour combination, reoccurring decorations, cozy corners and lots of light.Entering from the alleyway you come into a cool and cozy patio with 2 Moorish sitting corners and lovely well scented plants, all kept in a pleasant tone of terracotta.
The house consists of La Estrella and El Sol,both share the patio with its Moorish sitting corners, from here some steps lead up to the cave into which we set a refreshing Jacuzzi with its waterfall.Next to it we converted an old stable into another shower room with toilet, sink and washing machine.A spiral staircase leads up to the roof top terrace(100m2) with amazing views over the whole village that´s surrounded by the Guajar mountains. Here you find 2 shady pergolas with more Moorish sitting corners, deckchairs, sun umbrellas, hammocks and a BBQ.

We greet all our guests personally, unless we are away ourselves. Also we clean ourselves, which guarantees a very high standard of cleanliness. We speak English, Spanish and German and some French.

The Andalucia region

Directly from the house start short and also longer walks to explore the local mountains.A bit further on you will pass through a small gorge and then come to Guajar Alto, the smallest of the 3 Guajar villages.Wander along the different muletracks past and through Mediterranean Olive-Orange-Avocado and Chirimoyagroves.

Enjoy the almond blossom that starts in February and succumb to the perfume of the orangeblossom(El Azahar) in March.Watch the farmers in the plantingseason or at harvesttime. The nearest beach is 20 mins away and a little bit further you will find still rather untouched and romantic coves.Granada with its famous Alhambra, its charming,Moorish Albayzin and its quaint old town is only 1 hr away. The cozy and original villages of the Alpujarra with its cristalclear streams, refreshing riverpools and the snowcovered 3000m mountains always invite you to hike and explore and are only 45 mins away.Come, relax and enjoy!!
The 700 year era of Moorish-arabic culture has left its traces all over Andalucia. The mountainterraces with its mentioned acequias(waterflows) surround the whole valley. Many of the cultivated produce stem back to the Moors. This influence you will also taste in the local cuisine, the nearly daily eaten migas with sardines or papas a la pobre f.e.

The famous airdried ham of the Alpujarra, the different mountaincheeses or the varied fish and stew dishes. All these specialities very often you can sample as a (free) tapa that comes with your(alcoholic)drink.Start you day with a café con leche up in the bar and experience like this the local coffee culture.Ask us about the local handycraft and we´ll point out workshops that make pottery, woolweavings, leatherweavings, leatherclothing or woodcraft.Enjoy Andalucian mucic and experience the bubbly happiness of the locals, who can´t sit still when they hear a Flamenco!OLÉ!

Only 20 mins from us, down on the coast, we have a great golfcourse with a magnificent setting, between Motril and Salobreña. Golf with the sea in your back and the snowcovered 3000m mountains of the Sierra Nevada in front of you.In Salobeña another golfcourse will open soon and yet another halfway to Granada.

In the wintermonth you really are lost for choice.Or you go down to the empty beaches and stroll along the sea or you go to Granada to soak up some culture and do some shopping or you go up to the Sierra Nevada to go skiing. Actually you might do the lot in one single day!!! The skiarea of the Siera Nevada is the most modern skiarea in Spain and the one with the most sunhours in Eurpoe. Snow is guaranteed, it offers long and wide slopes (up to 86km!), very affordable prices and a very pleasant ambience a true international skiresort! Of course all equipment can be rented up in the resort.

Guajar Faraguit

The 3 Guajar-villages, of which Faragüit is the biggest, are nestled in a very fertile and green valley, surrounded by mountains.Sometimes the Olive-Orange-Avocado and Chirimoyaplantations reach up to the top of these mountains. The Moors left behind the acequias(wateringchannels) that criss cross the valley and thanks to which it is so wonderfully fertile.

These white Andalucian villages have actually been overlooked by tourism despite their proximity to the sea.Down to the coast, the beach and the next golfcourse it is 20mins,to Granada 1hr.,to the skislopes 11/2 hrs. and to the Alpujarras 45mins.Faragüit offers everything you might need,a colourful weekly market on Saturdays,a bar/restaurant with good homecooking from the area,a bank/ATM,a few bakeries, supermarket, doctor, pharmacy , besides traders that offer veggies, fruit and fresh fish from their cars.La Cueva is situated in a carfree alleyway and therefore very quiet. You can park as near as 200m away.
This somehow overlooked little jewel offers something for everybody.Away from the tourist hussle-buzzle on the coast, you take a dip into rural Andalucia, here you will experience how time seems to have stood still.Swing in the hammock and soak up the village noises, the mules that go past a few times daily or Jacinto the local fishmonger as he shouts “VAAMOOOS PECAAOOOO”(come and buy fish) or the veggieseller “ NIÑA PAPAS..”.

Or take a refreshing dip in the cave Jacuzzi a very original place to while a day away.In the evening take your favorite drink, sit up on the terrace and watch the moon rise or set or on moonless nights explore the milkyway or count the shooting stars, always with a secret wish. This place is as idyllic as it sounds!
