Where the foothills of the Alpe della Luna meet the fertile Upper Tiber Valley,(Valtiberina) , Molino Meocci is close to the cultural delights of Tuscany and just within Umbria, known as 'the green heart of Italy'.
Whilst being within easy reach of the key cultural cities such as Florence, SIena,Perugia, Arezzo, Urbino and Gubbio, there are also other delights right on the doorstep. The hills and the valley are very fertile and the farming traditional - the aromas and flavours are everywhere, and produce is all grown and distributed locally. Truffles, olives, vineyards, fruit trees, local honey, cheeses.
Each hamlet has its special festival - chestnuts (Caprese Michelangelo) truffles, wine, flowers, lacemaking, archery, music of all kinds - chamber music (Sansepolcro), jazz (Perugia), chocolate (Perugia)and flag throwing and medieval crafts (Sansepolcro).
Pliny the younger lived near San Giustino, and at the top of the next valley is a still active Franciscan monastery. - Montecasale - which is connected along a beautiful walking trail stretching from Assissi to La Verna
The hilltop monastery of La Verna - first settled by St Francis - is a short drive, and is very close to the hamlet of Caprese Michelangelo, the birthplace of Michelangelo, who credited his wellbeing to the healthy food and atmosphere of his native hilltop. The place has changed little, and the agrarian way of life is still recognisable.
San Giustino (20 mins walk or 3 mins drive) has several friendly bars and restaurants (wonderful food!), plus a range of grocery shops, post office, supermarket, banks, pizzerias, sports centre and a health club.. It's a very small local town, with infrequent foreign visitors. Weekly market in the piazza. It also has a small station - rail connection with Sansepolcro and Perugia.
10 mins drive away - or 20 mins by bike - is historic Sansepolcro. The birthplace of Piero della Francesca, it is a beautiful walled town with a rich variety of restaurants, delightful shopping, and the evening passagiata. It has several hotels, intriguing individual festivals, plus twice weekly market and a cinema.
Horse riding can be found nearby at Il Violino. Cycling is a very popular local activity - hire of very good cycles available, offering route itineraries, and also guided walks. See link on our website.
Molino is very near the border Umbria/ Toscana, and Sansepolcro, the nearest town, is in Toscana (Tuscany).
Citta di Castello - an Umbrian historic walled town -is also nearby (30 mins drive), having a wonderful variety of restaurants, shops, theatre, markets.
