The England region

Wiltshire is a beautiful country of rolling hills and the Avon Vale, where the past meets the present. Many historic house such as Stourhead, Bowood, Dryham Park and many more. Bath, a world heritage city is just half an hour away and Bristol with it new dockside and SS Great Britain are a must to visit.

Whether its small market towns on the Kennet and Avon canal or choclate box villages such as Lacock and Castle Combe we are a superb spot to visit for a few days or a week and only 2 hours to the coast too!

Wiltshire is a county steeped in history — Avebury and Stonehenge are two notable attractions — yet the area is also alive to the present. Explore our own medieval village of Lacock, visit lively market towns, enjoy our rolling open scenery or spend some time in historic stately homes. Don't forget to experience the bustling city centres of Bristol and Salisbury — you can even visit London for the day.

We're blessed with excellent pubs and restaurants, both in the centre of Lacock and the wider surrounding area, and Bath has a wide range of excellent places to eat. There are superb walking and cycling trails nearby, and each cottage has a selection of tourist information to help you decide where to go if you want to travel further afield.

Lacock itself is full of history and is perfectly located for exploring Wiltshire, the West Country, the Cotswolds, and the cities of Bristol and Bath. London is less than an hour and a half away by train and being situated near to main transport routes, Lacock makes an attractive stop-over on a longer trip, as well as the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday.

Lacock is a medieval village owned by the National Trust and home to Lacock Abbey where photography was first invented. Speciality shops and pretty buildings make up the village with tasty tea shops and excellent pubs are all within 5 minutes walk of Rectory cottages and also the main B&B The Old Rectory. Tearooms, a bakery, jewellery and antique shops, and a beautician all add to the character of the village.

Lacock Abbey (a Harry Potter filming location), to the west of the village, was the home of William Fox-Talbot, a pioneer of the photographic negative. The Abbey, now owned by the National Trust, is open to the public and houses a photographic museum.

The Surrounding Area:

Bath — a beautiful Georgian city not to be outdone by ancient history — is just thirty minutes away by car. Bath is a World Heritage Site offering numerous museums such as the Jane Austen Museum, No 1 Royal Crescent, the Roman Baths, or the Abbey for starters. Why not sample the new Thermae Bath Spa, with its rooftop pool and treatment centre too?

Salisbury — with its beautiful cathedral — is just forty-five minutes drive away. Also within easy reach are the historic houses and gardens of Bowood, Corsham Court, Dyrham Park, Stourhead, and Longleat Safari Park.

The vibrant city of Bristol, only forty-five minutes drive away, has recently opened a fabulous new shopping centre at Cabot Circus and boasts the cosmopolitan dock area with @Bristol and Explore; two must-visit destinations for the family.

The local villages and towns — including Castle Combe (with racing circuit), Bradford-on-Avon (with its canal) and Malmesbury with its abbey and gardens — are peaceful and beautiful, offering both pubs and tearooms in which to relax, and the opportunity to indulge in a little shopping; perhaps for antiques!

We can connect you to what's on in Wiltshire if you require. There is a bus link from Lacock to Chippenham hourly and then mainline train to Bath, Bristol and London.
