We brought the apartment for its year round appeal. The area has a wide selection of activities throughout the year as weel as the excellent skiing in the winter. Nestled on the western flank of Mont Blanc half way between Chamonix and Megève, Saint Gervais occupies a very privileged position. From here you have access not only to the immediate slopes, but also to the entire Evasion Mont Blanc area, 420 km of pistes and the resort of Megeve, where the beautiful French ski. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region

Haute-Savoie is a spur of France sandwiched between Lake Geneva and Switzerland to the North and Italy to the South. The area is dominated by the Grand Massif range and the Mont Blanc Massif of the Alps.

The capital of Haute-Savoie is Annecy, a fashionable town with a friendly ambience. The town’s canals give it a sense of romance and is often compared with Venice. The 15km long lake is a wonderful base for water sports as well as a great area for hiking, gliding or cycling through, taking advantage of the beautiful scenery.

The climate of the area sees the extremes of summer and winter. Summer temperatures can reach the mid thirties and the winter can drop to minus fifteen, creating the perfect skiing. THe weather range makes the Haute-Savoie ideal for both summer and winter holidays.

St Gervais is not a one trick pony. It offers a vast range of activities for all the family in both the summer and the winter. If you are looking for all the trappings of a modern ski resort whilst maintaining the fell of a traditional French town, it is the place for you. Situated at the foot of Mont Blanc the scenery is stunning and a great place to be based to explore the surrounding area. Its location makes it an ideal point from which to access the Chamonix Valley, Lake Anecey and Lake Geneva. The area is famous as a mecca for Alpine sports and the 4000 meter peaks around Mt Blanc are all within easy reach, well at least the start points are! For those less inclined to climb them, a great way to see Mont Blanc is to go on the tramway up to Nid d'Aigle taking you through the Alpine forests and meadows reaching the foot of Bionnassay Glacier. This is great for all the family and something we have done with a 2 month old baby. What's more there is a vast range of other outdoor activities including mountain biking, walking, paragliding, canyoning, rock climbing, swimming, golf, ice-skating rink and mini golf to list but a few.

It does not all need to be about activity as the town is also famous for its thermal spa with balneotherapy, beauty and medical treatments. The Spa is rated as the 2nd best medical spa in France for both dermatological and respiratory tract complaints.

The town has a great selection of bars, a casino and a nightclub, but the atmosphere is more about vibrant markets, good local food and a bustling mix of tourists and locals. Take the time to sample the local, family run resturants and you will not be disappointed. It is a side of French cuisine new to most and you will find traditional local dishes with a modern twist.
