The Dordogne boasts breathtaking countryside, awe-inspiring historical locations, spectacular chateaux, sun-dappled golden stone villages and some of the finest cuisine in France. The region is dominated by three great rivers, the Dordogne, the Lot and the Tarn, these rivers have carved out beautiful, fertile valleys which are ideal for growing the regions famous wines. The area is ideal for holidaymakers seeking a relaxing rural holiday in the heart of traditional France.
Spring arrives early here with mild sunny days in March and April gently easing into May and June's very warm long hours of sunshine and light evenings that seem to stretch on for ever. Then Summer arrives in a blast of heat with rising temperatures allowing outdoor acivities their full potential. Summer markets are everywhere and even the smallest of villages has an annual free firework display.
The towns of Bergerac (15km) and Sainte Foy La Grande (10 km) are wonderful medieval market towns on the Dordogne and both have fine local markets and restaurants. There are many other places to visit, from St Emilion to the Lascaux caves and Roc Gageac where the Dordogne carves its way through a canyon and houses are built into the vast rock face. Historic castles and chateaux abound some with superb gardens including the famous 11th century chateau at Monbazillac. Nearly all the vineyards in the region will be only too pleased to welcome you into their ‘cave’ for a free wine tasting. Bataille de Castionne held in July and August is also well worth a visit.
Le Fleix is 5 mins by car from the property and boast a bakers, small supermarket, 2 hairdressers, post office, tabac, restaurant . LOCAL AMENITIES INCLUDE:-
KAYAKING AND CANOEING
On the edge of Le Fleix is the quayside where you may hire kayaks and canoes. You have the choice of a 1, 2 or 6 hour trip on the river and the company who hire out the canoes will take you, with your canoe, life jacket and picnic if you have one, up the river to your starting point. They see you safely off and drive back to their base where you have left your car. You make your way down the river, dropping the canoe off and picking up your car at the end of your trip. This is a really fun day for all the family.
5 minutes drive will take you to Fougerolles where there is a private airfield from which you may book a gliding trip or even lessons for the more adventurous. Once again, this is inexpensive and prices depend on your choice of trip or lesson.

15 minutes drive from Le Fleix is the superb golf course of Les Vigiers. This is an 18 hole course and is testing enough to satisfy regular golfers but not too tough for the lesser player. Green fees are very reasonable and you may hire clubs and buggy. Les Vigiers also has a swimming pool, a bistro-style restaurant and the more expensive restaurant for a special night out in the chateau. There is also a health spa and fitness salon so that the ladies can enjoy pampering themselves whilst their menfolk fight it out on the course
