Beautiful chateau with private pool in a magnificent setting. Well maintained, with eight bedrooms, six bathrooms and vast living spaces indoors and out, this is the perfect place for family and friends to share a memorable holiday, enjoy time together and explore the area. The perfect venue for your yoga retreat or artists workshop. If you're coming from the UK, the TGV rail service direct from London to Avignon has made getting to this part of Provence even easier.

Set in woodland with stunning views from every window, the vineyards of Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaumes de Venise encircle the chateau. This property and its lovely gardens have plenty of space for groups of family or friends to have fun together in a very private setting.

The house has been renovated to a high standard and is just waiting to be enjoyed. The pool terrace and barbecue are always favourites and there are some lovely spots around the garden, inviting a pause to enjoy the view.

The full time caretaker on site looks after pool and grounds, so there is always someone on hand if you have any questions.

The village of Vacqueyras is exactly a mile away, with a baker, butcher, pharmacy, newsagent, greengrocer, small weekly market and a good restaurant. There is a larger supermarket just 5 miiles/8km away. For wine-lovers, the local winemakers of the Cotes du Rhone Villages are waiting to offer you a tasting of their fine wines.

This place is perfect for those who like to stay in one place and relax for a change on holiday.

For those who like to get out and about a bit more, the vast Provencal markets of Vaison la Romaine and Carpentras are a great way to spend a morning shopping for produce and souvenirs. There are no fewer than three Unesco World Heritage Sites - The Pont du Gard, the Roman Amphitheatre in Orange, and the Palais des Papes in Avignon - within an hour's drive. And in summer, the festivals of Avignon (theatre and comedy), Orange (music) and Vaison (dance) are not to be missed. There are many other magnificent sights to see in Provence and lots more information available in the Villa Theophile welcome book.

The Provence region

This part of Provence is rich in history, with the Roman Amphitheatre and Triumphal Arch in Orange just 25 minutes away and the Papal Palace and the Pont St Benezet (the famous Pont d'Avignon) only 40 minutes from the chateau. The amazing Pont du Gard is an hour away.

For outstanding natural beauty, the Fontaine de Vaucluse is a 50 minute drive; combine it with a trip to the hilltop village of Gordes and the beautiful Abbaye de Senanque for a memorable day out.

The Provencal markets in Vaison la Romaine (Tuesday mornings) and Carpentras (Friday mornings) are vast, and Isle sur la Sorgue has a huge market on Sunday mornings featuring antiques and bric-a-brac alongside the produce and Provencal staples.

The closest village, Vacqueyras, is within easy walking distance and has a good cafe/restaurant as well as a baker, butcher, greengrocer, pharmacy and post office. The local vignerons all offer tastings and the wine co-operatives, Les Vignerons de Caractere in Vacqueyras and the Cave de Gigondas, are not to be missed. Vacqueyras celebrates its wines and those of the region each year on 13 and 14 July at the Fete des Vins and there are similar events in other nearby villages.

Walks into the Dentelles de Montmirail are very popular, as are cycle rides. There are tennis courts in Vacqueyras (1.5km), cycle hire in Beaumes de Venise (5km), and horse riding in Aubignan (5km). A beach at the Lac de Monteux features many watersports and Splashworld - the biggest water park in France, with surfing waves and giant waterslides is also in Monteux (19km). The nearest golf course is in Orange (18km), with several more courses within an hour's drive or thereabouts.
