The Dalby Forest can be reached on foot from the cottage and is host to many activities including walking, cycling and astronomy! Within a short drive is Castle Howard, recently voted one of the world's top ten mansions, Eden Camp, a fascinating modern history museum and for the children, a great day out at Flamingoland. Pickering and Malton are fabulous towns with individual shops and attractions. There are farm shops and tearooms galore - can you resist??
Thornton Le Dale has so much history dating back to Neolithic man. It has been voted one of the prettiest villages in the UK and the thatched cottage on the beck is one of the most photographed houses and has featured on many a chocolate box. The village has an annual show in August and the Christmas light switch on attracts thousands of visitors. Pickering has a castle and is home to the annual October war week end which becomes more popular every year. Open air concerts are held every summer in the Dalby Forest and can be reached on foot to beat the traffic.
