East Devon on the Jurassic coast is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The coast is beautiful and largely unspoilt, stretching from Lyme Regis with it's fossil hunting through Beer, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton to Exmouth, each of which is delightful in it's own right.
Inland the towns and villages are picturesque and full of character. There are many churches and stately homes of interest including Buckfastleigh Abbey, Exeter cathedral, Tiverton castle, Killerton gardens. A little further afield are Dartmoor, Exmoor and the more tourist orientated areas of Torquay and Painton.
East Devon and especially the coastline is an area of the country that is blessed with a warmer and sunnier climate than other more northerly regions.
Branscombe is a truly picturesque village. it is reached by a long, winding , often single track road through a wooded valley. The area is farmed by the national trust and wild life abounds, particularly birdlife such as buzzards and peregrine falcons. There are many footpaths crisscrossing the village and the walk along the coastal footpaths is fantastic with stunning views from the clifftops.
The beach is unspoilt with just a thatched roof cafe. There is an old water mill and tearoom, a blacksmiths and 2 real ale pubs.
The donkey sanctuary is very close with activities for children such as Crealy Park, Bicton Gardens and Pecorama all within a short driving distance.
