If you're looking to experience the feel of life in a French village, this is where you want to be. Our house is located in the Dordogne department of southwestern France, in a lovely medieval village called Issigeac. The town of Bergerac, with its airport and train station, is just 15-20 minutes away.
The village has a full range of shops and artists; it bustles every Sunday with a lively regional market. There are three cafes, three restaurants, three bakeries, two grocery stores, an organic food shop, two butchers and a wine shop.
Our house is renovated but still simple. There is an eat-in kitchen on the ground floor, along with the bathroom. Three bedrooms are on the first floor up (two with double beds, and one with bunk beds), and the whole top floor is a sitting area with a double sofa bed and single day bed. We are open to having as many as 8 people, but we recommend no more than four adults, as there is only one bathroom. There is a small grassy, shaded courtyard garden, with a table, chairs and bench.
On market day, you can get pretty much whatever you want to eat or drink just steps from your door. Fruit and vegetable stands form the heart of the market in the central square. Lining the streets are stalls that specialize in chicken, cheese, fish, olives, fresh juice, crèpes, foie gras, seafood, paella, sausages, plus whatever local produce is in season.
