Bansko is located in the beautiful & tranquil area of the Pirin mountain range and to the south of the Pirin National Park. The Park is a World Heritage national park that encompasses the larger part of the Pirin Mountains in the southwest of Bulgaria.
Two nature reserves are located within the boundaries of the park, no wonder the area is so popular to tourists. Skiers benefit from the fantastic snow conditions in winter and in the summer the area is popular to trekers, nature lovers and mountain biking enthusiasts.
There are many popular historic places to visit including the world famous Rila Monastery which dates back to the 10th century.
Bansko has very traditional Bulgarian roots. In the heart of the old town is the monastery surrounded by monuments and fountains The old town houses traditional Bulgarian shops and Mahenas (traditional restaurants) which offer great food at very affordable prices. A typical 3 course meal including wine in a Bulgarian Mahena will cost on average £10 to £15 per head. The old town also hosts the annual Jazz festival which has become infamous throughout Europe. The festival occurs every August lasing over 5 days.
As you walk up towards the gondola the modern part of the town emerges. An ice rink and bowling alley provide additional fun for families and groups. International restaurants and Mehanas sit together offering a vast array of food. There are also many bars and hotels but the town never gets rowdy. For a treat enjoy a cocktail in the bar of the 5* Kempinski hotel which is located on the opposite side of the gondola to Bansko Royal Towers.
Finally, there are plenty of shops if retail therapy is required!
