Koh Phangan is a natural paradise island in the Southern Gulf of Thailand, the island serves as the perfect getaway retreat; relaxing on quiet deserted beaches, snorkelling and learning to dive at the distinctive island of Koh Ma - a protected National Marine Park; trekking in the footsteps of Thai Royalty at Than Sadet National Park steeped in history and culture; seeking adventure in the nearby Ang Thong archipelago composed of over 40 islands endowed with pristine beaches, natural caves and the tranquil Tha Laem Nai - the salt water blue lagoon lake featured in The Beach by Alex Garland. It seems that whatever it is you are looking for, there's something here for everyone.
Twenty years ago Koh Phangan the neighbouring island of Koh Samui had only a few intrepid backpackers visited the island. Today, Koh Phangan is a cosmopolitan melting pot, attracting budget travellers staying for a month or two in simple beachside fan bungalows, to the mega rich, dropping in for a weekend at a luxury resort or villa on the beach.
Koh Phangan is unique among Thailand's islands in maintaining a broad appeal to everyone. This helps to give the distinctive relaxed atmosphere that sets it apart. Everyone is welcome.
A wide range of accommodation, great night-life, action sports, beautiful scenery. It's all here in Koh Phangan.
Woktum Bay offers a chance to see Koh Phangan as it once was. Being the hub for tin mining before the island turned to tourism there is interesting spots to visit including Laem Son Lake.
There is a also a number of small fishing vessels catching squid from the beach and the are lots of small eateries, food stalls and excellent restaurants in the area.
