The Community of Madrid region

Apart from being a fascinating city in its own right, Madrid also makes an excellent base for visiting El Escorial, Avila, Cuenca, Aranjuez or Toledo, to name just a few places of interest, offering a very wide cultural and geographical diversity. Day trips can be easily organized to all these destinations. If you´re interested there are even ski resorts – open during the snow season - within easy reach of Madrid city. Weather is definitely a plus in Madrid - it´s a continental climate - hot and dry in summer, cold and crisp in winter, but the sun is nearly always shining!

Visitors to Madrid can´t go home without visiting the Prado/Thyssen-Bornemisza/Reina Sofia museum triangle, Retiro park, Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and Royal Palace, all of which are within easy reach of the Ferraz apartment. The Templo de Debod area, where the apartment is situated, has also got some lesser known attractions to offer - most people are surprised to come across a 2,200 year old Egyptian temple in the middle of Madrid, but the Templo de Debod has been standing by the city´s Plaza de España since 1968, when it was donated to Spain by the Egyptian government.

Even when you live right by, the Templo de Debod never fails to impress and is the best place in Madrid to watch the sun go down. A perfect walk is down Ferraz, past the Templo de Debod, Plaza España, left at the Royal Palace, towards the Opera House and then along the Calle Arenal into Sol. Alternatively you can just jump on the metro and Sol is just three stations away.

For some spectacular views of Madrid take the cable car (don´t forget your camera) from Paseo Pintor Rosales - 3 minutes from the apartment – and on the way back chill out, away from the tourist traps, on one of the pavement terraces running alongside the beautifully natural Parque del Oeste. Afterwards you can visit the Goya frescos in the nearby San Antonio de la Florida chapel.

Getting back to basics, eating out and shopping for food near the apartment is good and varied, from gourmet to some of the best value for money places in town and everything, including freshly baked bread, is on your doorstep. The nearby Princesa area not only has a wide selection of stores, fashion outlets and so on, it also offers cafés, restaurants, cinemas and clubs with live music. Madrid is the city that never sleeps!
