The North Wales Borderlands is a relatively small area of great geographical and geological diversity. The East of the region features spectacular limestone escarpments which butt up to much older slate mountains. Deep river valleys and ice age glaciers have cut spectacular valleys into the mountains creating the wonderful geographical landscape found today. The main settlement in the area is Llangollen. Local attractions include Valle Crucis Abbey, Llangollen canal and Pontcysyllte aqueduct, Llangollen pavilion & Eisteddfod, Llangollen steam railway (featuring guest appearances by Thomas the Tank Engine!), Plas Newydd (home of the Ladies of Llangollen), the Horseshoe Pass and the North Wales coast. The cottage is an ideal base for hill and lane walking, mountain biking, golf, fishing, canoeing, adventure holidays, bird watching (there are ravens resident on Velvet Hill behind the cottage and housemartins nest on the cottage), rock climbing or for simply enjoying an away-from-it-all break in the famous North Wales Borderlands countryside and mountains.
