Brittany is famous for its rugged coastline, seafood culinary delights, and rich cultural history and patrimony. There are many castles to visit, as well as beautiful natural sites.
The world heritage site of Mont St Michel is an easy 35 minute drive away as is the regional capital Rennes. The Normandy landing beaches and historic Bayeux can be reached in 2 hours by car.
The North coast is a 20 to 30 minute easy drive from Dinan. Where there are plenty of destinations to choose from, whether you enjoy sandy beaches, small intimate coves. From the historical walled city of St Malo town to the seaside resorts of Dinard and St Cast, to the stunning bay of St Briac and picturesque fishing peninsula of St Jacut or the dramatic lanscapes of Cap Frehel.
Also, the Rance Valley is a wonderful area of wildlife preservation, with pathways and picturesque fishing villages.
A number of golf courses are within easy access including Dinard, Le Tronchet, le Clos des Ormes, St Cast, St Michel de Plelan, Pleneuf Val André, all within 20 to 40 mins drive.
For family outings, Cobac parc, Bourbansais zoo and St Malo Aquarium are only 20 mns away
Dinan has a wide range of good restaurants, bistros and traditional bars as well as boutiques and craft shops.
The historical centre surrounded by its impressive belt of remparts, overlooking the Rance valley, where the port area is nestled, can be reached from the house by crossing the halfpenny bridge and climbing up the picturesque 'rue du Jerzual' with its half timbered houses converted into artist galleries and craft shops.
The cultural life of the town is vibrant with a theatre and numerous artistic, sporting events and entertainments taking place right through the year. The highlight of the calendar is the Fete Des Remparts which takes place every 2 years - next scheduled for 2014. This is one of the biggest medieval festival in Europe and makes an unforgettable weekend.
The Port itself is animated in the summer with various events : fireworks display and traditional 'bal musette' on July 13th, nautical jousting and paddling events, artist weekend...
Nearly next door to the house is the 'Maison de la Rance' shop which organises outings to discover the fauna and flora of this particular ecosystem.
From the house, turn left and walk, cycle of take the long boat to Léhon, a beautiful village with outdoor swimming pool and historical abbey, or turn rignt and go towards the pretty village of Taden, and further on, the lovely 'Port de Lyvet'.
