Carcassonne is one of the most visited towns in France, and with good reason. The Unesco world heritage site of the Medieval walled city is a wonder to behold. Take a walk through history and stop for lunch or a romantic dinner.
Enjoy a sun soaked boat trip along the engineering marvel, which is a Unesco world heritage site, of the Canal du Midi. Linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic, it's tree-lined banks are the perfect way to while away a sunny afternoon......
THINGS TO DO
Overlooking the lower town of Bastide Saint Louis, set high on a hill is the magnificant medieval walled city, La Cite. The 2500 year old UNESCO hertiage city features 3 kms of ramparts and 52 towers and is considered one of the best preserved examples to the Middle Ages in Europe. Within the city walls lie a labyrinth of atmospheric cobbled streets, towers and drawbridges. Just wander these ancient streets or soak up the atmosphere in one the many bars or restaurants. La Cite really comes alive on Bastille Day when the medieval city is lit up like a fairytale castle with a breath-taking fireworks display.
This beautiful lake has 3 main beaches all with swimming to help you cool down on a hot summers day. Situated on a bus route (number 1 bus from Bastide), it takes approximately 25 minutes to reach and costs around €1.20 each way.
