The Domus Volceiana apartment, straggling between past and present, offers in a splendid frame a relaxing stay surrounded by a simple and elegant atmosphere. The setting brings the guest into a history journey in the heart of the apartment itself ,through the visible remains of the Roman temple of Apollo, that during the Middle Ages became a church dedicated to cult of the Holy Spirit.
History, archaeology, art, culture and traditions for a stay devoted to relaxing and admiring the beauties of the surrounding territory. Simple style and careful attention to the details dominates throughout the house. Some rooms overlooking the characteristic alleys of the old town, some others on the rooftops and chimneys that lead the eye up to the bell tower that chimes punctuating the quiet time. The studio room, with the medieval baptismal font, has a rich library focused in books on archaeology and art history.
Buccino (in the Campania region) is a village with 6,000 inhabitants situated at a high of 600 meters on the Tanagro River valley, dominated by Mount Alburno, on the edge of the Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano in a rich landscape full of natural attractions.
The historic center of the modern town stands on the ruins of the ancient Lucan and Roman city of Volcei, partly preserved. The characteristic narrow streets and terraced paths follow the course of those ancient ruins while the castle with its impressive Norman tower stands on the top of the hill. The Archaeological Park makes the ancient city to live together with the modern, in an unique urban and historical palimpsest; walking through the streets of Buccino offers the intriguing possibility of moving down in history as in a tunnel of time. Nothing interrupts the natural perpetuity between the remains of the various historical phases that are exposed to our interest.
So, just by walking, we find a Roman mosaic, a medieval cave complex, a pre-Roman building or a Norman-Angioin castle...
From Buccino you can easily reach Salerno and the Amalfi coast (1 hour by car), Pompeii, Naples (1hour 45 min. by car), Mount Vesuvius, Caserta Royal Palace,Paestum (30 min.) and many other beautiful places in Campania and in the nearby regions.
