PALAU is located in one of the most scenic ramifications of the north-eastern coast of Sardinia , opposite the island of La Maddalena. The country is characterized by the coasts artistically shaped by nature and unique in the world . Point of embarkation bound for the islands of the Maddalena archipelago , the country owes its fortune to the narrow-gauge railway Sassari -Tempio - Palau. Life revolves around the piers and moorings to the marina. The origin of the name dates back to the fourteenth century when the local fishermen indicated by the term " comparable ", from which " Parao " , the points of the coast considered safer and well protected from the wind . The promontory of Palau , as the archipelago of La Maddalena was known since the time of the greek geographer Ptolemy, who in his maps nicknamed the site " Arcti Promontory ."

From Palau worth visiting the most famous and fascinating of the coast: the promontory of Capo d'Orso , culminating in a large rock sculpted by the wind recalls the silhouette of a plantigrade . The Punta Sardegna is reached along the road that leads to Mount Altura and then down to the beach of Cala Trana , end of the tip . The view from here is great, although the continuous expansion of built-up areas is ruining the beauty of the area . Of particular beauty is the battery of Monte Altura, in a panoramic position reached by the road that leads to Porto Raphael . The beauty of its beaches is also matched by the fascinating beauty of the village. During the night, the visitor will surely spend the evening in one of the many nightclubs in the country.

It ' a group of islands to the north- east of Sardinia , off the Costa Smeralda. Among the most ' important , THE MAGDALENE, the only inhabited , CAPRERA , SANTO STEFANO , SANTA MARIA , RAZZOLI , BUDELLI , SPREAD , as well as other more' small . The articulated configuration coast lies much of its beauty and charming bays and coves from which ' can admire formidable . The beaches with white sands and emerald water , along with the majesty ' of its cliffs and the shapes of its rocks , similar to sculptures make up the spectacular' conquest of the archipelago that every visitor.

La Maddalena is a town in the province of Olbia -Tempio and consists of seven main islands and dall'arcipelago three inhabited : La Maddalena , Caprera, Santa Maria , the other uninhabited Santo Stefano , Spread , Casings , Razzoli and other islets minors.
The beautiful archipelago to be discovered and experienced is certainly visited by boat.
The tour of the islands , the sea , the colors and scents of the Mediterranean, are all natural elements that will make you live an experience you will not forget easily.

On the rocky promontory overlooking the sea rises Longosardo tower erected in the sixteenth century during the Aragonese period , which takes in both the bay of Porto Longone that , in the background , the white cliffs that surround the city Bonifacio race . On the left the coast down to the Rena Bianca beach that ends at a short distance from the cliffs on the island Monica where the traces of an abandoned quarry . Of note also the cultural importance of the archaeological complex of Lu Brandali and the tower Longonsardo . We also recommend a visit to Capo Testa , a rock connected to the mainland by a strip of sand, which can be reached along a very scenic ride on the open bays and Colba of Santa Reparata. Among the modern and ancient cave - here the Romans chose the stone for the columns of the Pantheon - and the scent of the maquis vegetation until you eventually reach the lighthouse of Capo Testa

Porto Cervo is a popular holiday resort whose name comes from its shape that resembles the head of a deer as it was built around a natural harbor. Characterized by a particular style of architecture, this small tourist town is crossed by a maze of narrow streets , arcades and stairways that converge in the central Piazzetta connected via a wooden bridge to the Old Port and famous for its numerous boutiques and designer shops . Porto Cervo overlooks the picturesque bay crowded in high season from luxury boats and sailboats.

Baja Sardinia is one of the most famous resorts of the Costa Smeralda, is fanned out in a wide bay with a beach with crystal clear water and fine sand , facing the Archipelago of La Maddalena and about 4 km west of Porto Cervo .

Olbia , called by the Greeks happy city , overlooking the Bay which contains the beautiful islands of Tavolara and Molara. Known throughout the world for the airport that serves as access to the Costa Smeralda, an international crossroads for many visitors , the city has a strong industrial and commercial reality , with tourist centers very important to Sardinia, as Porto Rotondo and Porto.
There are numerous fascinating archaeological sites in the area: the Nuraghe Riu Mulinu at Casteddu On the hill overlooking the Gulf of Olbia , the tomb of the giants of Su Monte de S'Aba and the sacred well know Tesa . Conquered by the Romans, the city retains the baths and the aqueduct , the only one still intact in Sardinia , and a typical Roman farm S'Imbalconadu .

Porto Puddu or Porto Pollo, between Palau and Santa Teresa Gallura, is a large cove of white sand surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation near the mouth of the Smooth and Isola dei Gabbiani, connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of sand. The beaches of fine sand, sheltered rocky coves, clear waters and emerald green, the colors and smells of the Mediterranean vegetation full of mastic and cistus, are characteristic of this part of the northern coast of Sardinia .. The windy nature of the resort, as well as throughout this area of the coast, attracts a strong presence of windsurfers and sailors, for which the presence of a school near the beach offers the possibility of interesting excursions to the surrounding islands. The accommodation, set in an environment of great beauty, an alternative at a lower cost than those of the prestigious Costa Smeralda.
