The Algarve is 240km from east to west, and approx. 40kms from north to south.

There are numerous resorts, spectacular scenery and activities for all tastes, whether it's lazy days by the pool, sunset walks on the many stunning beaches, exciting days out to water parks or leisurely strolls around picturesque perfect towns full of history and tradition.

t is in the Western side of the Algarve is where you will be dazzled with glorious beaches framed by cliffs and surreal rock formations. This is the area where you will find the classic postcard images, such as a series of tiny bays and coves, as well as amazing grottoes.

Nominated by many as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Praia da Marinha offers an impressive scenery, as well as a peaceful atmosphere and green area of fields. Carvoeiro, which is only a short distance away, is a bustling and friendly small fishing village. It has expanded enormously and is now the home of lovely villas and apartments along and up the hill.

Located across the river estuary of Rio Arade, we can find Ferragudo, a low rise old world charm village overlooking Portimão and the marina. Portimão is the biggest city of the Algarve, and has a perfect shopping town centre, offering a wide range of clothes, gifts and souvenirs. It has many famous fish restaurants under the old bridge, by the water front of the Arade River, as well as a sophisticated and colourful marina that is worth seeing.

The vast Praia da Rocha is just next to the marina, and is one of the most lively and bustling holiday resorts, as well as popular tourist centre.

The charming fishing village of Alvor with narrow cobbled streets is also well known in this area. It has two long sandy beaches just a walk away: Praia de Alvor and Praia dos Três Irmãos.

If you head to the head of the hills north of Portimão then you must explore the outstanding Serra de Monchique. Is it the highest mountain range in the south region, with cork and chestnut woods, as well as remote little villages. The pretty spa town of Caldas de Monchique has a gracious its eucalyptus-shaded central square. Moorish architecture can be explored in Silves, and enchanting town that sits on the banks of Arade river and where you can visit an impressive and well preserved castle.

The fantastic town of Lagos is vibrant for all age groups. It has an older part that is still circled by the 16th century walls, historical churches and a modern marina. The upper part of the town displays an amazing view over the Meia Praia Beach and its 4kms of golden sand.

A few kilometres ahead lays the recent developed resort of Luz, and its attractive Praia da Luz beach and lovely promenade.

If you continue to head west, you will reach the untouched village of Sagres, site of Henry the Navigator's naval school. It is still an attractive town with low rise houses and quiet streets. The cost around Sagres is dotted with secluded coves and wild beautiful beaches that are very popular with surfers.
