The ancient town of Cefalù is one of the most renowned destinations in Sicily: its picturesque medieval historical centre, together with its lovely sandy beach, attracts plenty of visitors from all over the world, all year round. The narrow tiny streets of the historical centre are surrounded by refined ancient palaces and houses, and the labyrinth of winding alleys hides beautiful invaluable treasures. The most famous and stunning landmark is the cathedral indeed, rising on the upper side of the city centre so that it can be seen from far away on the road that approaches the town. Inside this majestic monument you'll have the chance to see beautiful byzantine mosaics, while outside, in the lovely square, local refined bars will serve you flavoursome gelato. The beach is really beautiful as well, but overcrowded during high season – that's why we recommend you go off the beaten track and try some of the pretty bays and beaches nearby, such as Mazzaforno. If you are a trekking lover, we recommend a visit to the Sanctuary of Gibilmanna, 800 meters above sea level on Pizzo Sant'Angelo, as well as to the Madonie Mountains where you'll find breath-taking landscapes and pretty ancient villages. Palermo, the vibrant and lively capital of Sicily, is just an hour away: don't miss a day walking through the streets of the city, sided by refined liberty palaces and studded with marvelous churches and monuments. The ancient and thrilling history of “Panormus”, first built by the Phoenicians, will fascinate you!
