Surrounded by our own vineyards, the holiday house at Chateau de Claribes has magnificent views over our own valley to the front and vineyards to the rear. Peacefully situated in the heart of the countryside, yet only 3km from the pretty village of Gensac, our visitors enjoy the tranquil, relaxed pace of life, with close proximity to all the services of village life.
The house provides an ideal base for exploring the Bordeaux region rich in culture, architecture, activities, food and wine. Or just a relaxing, peaceful home to enjoy the tranquillity of the vineyard covered hills and valleys.
On arrival, you pass through the flower-filled front garden to the door, where you enter into the middle of the very spacious ground floor space (13m x 6m with hight ceilings). One huge cooking, eating, relaxing space, there is plenty of dining and lounging furniture for six. An abundance of cookware, crockery and cutlery ensures meals can be relaxed. Former guests have entertained 11 people easily! The living area has a sofa, chairs, TV with DVD player, iPhone dock, books and a selection of board games. The wood burner provides warmth and ambience for chilly early spring or late autumn visits.
On the first floor are two double bedrooms, one with en suite shower room with shower, loo and washbasin. Each bedroom has hanging space and drawers for clothing. The family bathroom has bath (with shower over), loo and washbasin.
Large, soft fluffy towels will be in the bathrooms, and the beds made up for you on arrival, with plenty of pillows, duvets and crisp cotton sheets.
The private gardens to the front and rear of the house have dining and lounging furniture, with parasols and a barbecue. Outdoor games (badminton, frisbee, boules, basket, rugby and foot balls, etc;), picnic rugs and deckchairs are available on request. There is private parking for two cars.
The house was renovated with sustainability in mind. Keeping the character of this centuries old farmhouse, we've sympathetically installed new plumbing and electricity to meet today's needs. Locally crafted tiles and wooden floors, rugs made from natural materials, and furniture from the village cabinet maker, all help to reduce our carbon footprint. We only use water-based paints and ensure that we buy from companies who also have a reputation for sustainability. We can provide allergen-free pillows and duvets on request.

Nestled amongst the vineyards of Bordeaux, the region offers many wine related activities as well as Bastide towns to visit; markets to explore; Brocantes to browse and river-based activities. For city lovers, visit beautiful Bordeaux for culture, history, antiques, shopping and culinary delights. St Emilion's car-free, steep cobbled streets and narrow alleyways make this an interesting village to explore. Our closest town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande provides independent shops, large supermarkets, as well a lively Saturday morning market. Around the Bassin d'Arcachon are interesting fishing villages to mooch around. Visit the oyster farmer "cabanes"; climb the highest sand dune in Europe and feast on local produce.
The pretty village of Gensac is within walking distance along a very quiet country lane or through the vineyards, or 5 minutes by car. In the village you will find a butcher; baker; small grocery store; a weekly market; pharmacy; and two restaurants - everything for daily needs! The village hosts a huge brocante in August, a music festival in July, and night markets throughout the summer where locals and visitors enjoy meeting up to enjoy good food with delicious local wine.
