Unesco World Heritage in Emilia Romagna
The World Heritage sites belong to all the world's populations, besides that of the territory in which they are located. They represent the inheritance of a past from which we now reap many benefits that we pass on to future generations. The Emilia Romagna region is home to three sites, which for their value and diversity have been placed among the international cultural and natural excellences of the world. We are referring to the Cities of Art of Modena, Ravenna, and Ferrara along with its Po Delta. (emiliaromagnaturismo.com)
The PO Delta Park:
One of the most important wetland zones in Europe and the largest in Italy, bringing together elements of biodiversity to make a paradise for naturalists, biologists, scientists, tourists and birdwatchers.
A great green area framed by ancient woodlands, pinewoods and nature reserves, studded with architectural survivals from the golden age of the Este dukes.
The park is laid out in stations, territorial zones characterised by specific biological and geographic zones, cultural and artistic features, and historic buildings. (ferraraterraeacqua.it)
Ferrara, city of the Renaissance, UNESCO World Heritage
Lying in the middle of the Po Valley, Ferrara still has the atmosphere of the past, which blends in harmoniously with the lively atmosphere of the present.
Ferrara's most famous image is certainly that of its grand Renaissance, the age of splendour of the Estense court, which has left indelible signs everywhere: in the colossal Addizione Erculea project, in the impressive pictorial cycles belonging to the Quattrocento and Cinquecento and in the Last Judgement by Bastianino. From 1995 on, UNESCO has included the historical centre of Ferrara in the list of World Cultural Heritage as a wonderful example of a town planned in the Renaissance and still keeping its historical centre intact. The town planning criteria expressed in Ferrara had a deep influence on the progress of town planning in the following centuries.
