The Provence region

Maison de Pierre is in the heart of the medieval village of Tourrettes sur Loup which nestles in the hills behind Nice and Antibes and is just 25 minutes drive from Nice airport and the nearest beaches. There is easy access to the artists village of St. Paul de Vence famed for its galleries, sculpture and the world renowned Colombe D'Or restaurant. Grasse, the perfume capital of France and Gourdon with it's dizzying "eagle's nest" views of the coast and Corsica are just 20 minutes away. Just down the road from Tourrettes is the entrance to the famous and spectacular Gorge du Loup with it's vaulting cliffs and waterfalls. Around 45 minutes by car will find you in the lively international beach resorts of Cannes, Antibes, Nice or Juan les Pins. Only a little further away along the coast is Monaco and the Italian border all within easy reach or why not head west and enjoy a day trip to St. Tropez by either road or ferry. The local ski resort of Greolieres can be reached in 45 minutes and in winter offers excellent skiing but the drive in summer also offers spectacular views, hiking and mountain scenery. There are five exellent golf courses within a 30 minute drive. Active outdoor pursuits nearby include parascending, hang-gliding, canyoning and horse riding. There are some excellent and varied walks nearby for all levels of walkers or hikers, many in moutainous terrain with breathtaking views. Beaches in the area include both sandy and pebble beaches and the nearest beaches are just 25 minutes drive with excellent safe bathing and a great choice of beachside restaurants and bars.

Step out of the door of Maison de Pierre and you are just a few paces from the main square of Tourrettes sur Loup. Shopping around the square includes 2 grocery stores and a small supermarket, a newspaper shop, 2 butchers, 2 bakeries and many other shops and businesses. The tree shaded square is also home to several "boules" terrains and a handy car park. No French village woould be complete without it's cafe bars and restaurants and the main square in Tourrettes sur Loup has a choice of 7 different establishments around the square itself with a further 7 more in the surrounding medieval streets. The choice includes everything from local bars with simple snacks or pizza to menus "gastronomique". Tourrettes now even has a Michelin starred restaurant. This means that you could leave the car behind and walk to a different eating venue every evening of a two week vacation! With the idea of leaving the car behind there is an excellent bus service from Tourrettes and the local town of Vence to many places in the area including Nice for just 1 euro per person per journey. At the back of the square in Tourrettes sur Loup are two arched entrances to the medieval "Grande Rue". This ancient cobbled street meanders around the outer edge of the village returning back into the square. The Grande Rue is home to the oldest medieval dwellings in the village and also includes many small "ateliers" workshops and galleries showing the artistic heritage of Tourrettes sur Loup - village of art and artisans.
