La Belugue is a pretty, well furnished villa with private pool, within walking distance of the authentic Provencal village of Flayosc, with its cafes and restaurants. Newly refurbished bathrooms, well equipped kitchen, WiFi, and all towels and linens provided. Recent guests have said '...totally idyllic!' 'Possibly the best rental so far and we have been renting properties in Spain and France for more than 10 years' and 'It was a comfortable, beautifully furnished, and ideally located.'

La Belugue offers a large ground floor double bedroom, served by a separate shower room. The two upstairs bedrooms interconnect (one is a double with ensuite shower room, the other a triple with single and bunk beds), making a perfect suite for families. A travel cot and other baby items are available.

A well equipped kitchen includes dishwasher, microwave, electric oven and gas hob, and the adjacent dining area has doors to a south facing terrace (with shade) which leads to the pool. There is a gas barbeque and seating.

The large open plan sitting room has doors to a further south facing terrace area with table and chairs beneath a pergola with vines; an ideal spot for an al fresco meal or a sundowner. The sitting room is open to a library/study area where there are children's indoor games, books and DVDs. There is a television for DVDs.

Wireless broadband connection is available to all guests. iPod dock/speakers. Playstation 2 equipment is available.

A conservatory style entry porch leads to a utility room with laundry facilities.

Outside is the 8m x 4m private swimming pool. It is paved around, and there are sun loungers and parasols. Shrubs, hedges and some small trees together offer further shade and ensure privacy. (The length of the swimming season depends on the weather, but normally the pool is winterised from around the end of September until mid-May).

La Belugue is tucked away behind wrought iron gates and mature hedges at the end of a quiet cul de sac, making it peaceful and secluded. A gravel driveway leads to covered parking next to the house.

The enclosed garden has mature shrubs and fruit trees. To the side of the house is a boules area - a boules set is provided, along with some outdoor toys.

The Provence region

Lac St Croix and the Gorges du Verdon - 'France's Grand Canyon' - are about 45 minutes away (drive the scenic roads along the rim or get on the water with pedalo, kayaks etc - you can boat along the gorges or just around the lake). Moustiers and the lavender fields are nearby. The gorges are stunning and well worth a visit. A number of operators offer adventure activities in that area. For the energetic, the Sentier Martel is the classic walk through the gorges. The Massif des Maures and Esterel coast offer more beautiful areas to explore.

If you want the beach, St Raphael, Frejus and St Aygulf are all within 45 minutes drive in the other direction. There are water parks and other attractions on the coast too.

Of course the Cote d'Azur also offers the stylish destinations such as Nice, Cannes, St Tropez and Antibes. All can be visited easily from Flayosc, but its nice at the end of the day to get back to a tranquil spot. The perfumeries at Grasse and caves at St Cezaire are interesting too.

There are many other charming villages to explore such as Tourtour, Entrecasteaux and Bargemon.

If it's history you're looking for, the area has more than its share. There are abundant Roman ruins (most notably the amphitheatre at Frejus), the Route Napoleon and monasteries such as Le Thoronet.

Further afield, Flayosc puts Aix-en-Provence, van Gogh country around St Remy de Provence and Arles, Monaco, and even the high Alps within a day trip.

Or you might prefer just to spend the day by the pool...

Although in a quiet position, La Belugue is within easy walking distance of the medieval centre of Flayosc, a traditional hilltop village known as the gateway to the Haut Var.

Flayosc has all basic amenities - bank, tourist office, bakeries, small supermarkets - and for its size is surprisingly well stocked with cafes, a pizzeria and some excellent restaurants. Larger supermarkets are within about 15 minutes' drive.

Flayosc is located about 1 hour's drive from Nice and is within 30 minutes of the main A8 autoroute.

There is lots to do in the surrounding area, although one of the chief pleasures is enjoying the local food and wine, and the relaxed pace of life in the sunshine. There are the local markets to explore in surrounding towns and villages, to sample cheeses, meats, olives, honey... and to browse the craft stalls. Pottery and textiles are plentiful. It is also well worth spending an afternoon sampling the local wines (the areas around nearby Lorgues and Les Arcs are good places to start).

If you are looking for a little more activity, there are lots of lovely walks right on the doorstep, through vineyards and olive groves.
