The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Aquitaine is one of the prettiest regions of France. situated in the south west corner of the country, it boasts beautiful countryside and villages that have scarcely been touched by tourism.

The medieval castles are dotted around the area and are some of the best preserved in France.

Bordeaux which is 1.5 hours north and Biarritz 40 minutes south are both cosmopolitan centres with excellent restaurants and retail.

There are numerous markets full of delicious local produce. There is also in Capbreton a seafood market.

Water tempertature in July and August is plus 21 degrees making surfing and swimming relatively balmy.

The Pyrennees are a great location for walking and skiing in winter.

There are also several excellent golf courses.


Hossegor is dominated by the Atlantic ocean and the lake. There is great surfing opportunities and there are numerous learn to surf schools for beginners. Several pro contests are held every year.

There are 2 golf courses within 5 minutes of Hossegor.

Regular markets are held offering local produce, sea food, crafts and art. Hossegor has a selection of all the surfing outlets and funky boutiques. The fete de Bayonnne is a must in August.

Le petit train at La Rhune gives fantastic views across the Bay Of Biscay.

St Jean de Luz is a short trip down the coast and is beautiful old town.

Spain is 40 minutes and San Sebastien and it's assorted tapas bars is highlight.
