Casa Leana is over 350 years old and brimming with gorgeous original features from chunky beamed, wood ceilings and exposed stone walls to the traditional tiled kitchen. We have also lavished a whole lot of love on the interior and furnishings to transform our rambling, rustic farmhouse into a luxurious, stylish villa.

Tuscany is famous for its food and wine so cooking and dining at Casa Leana is very much a pleasure from using the superb local produce to rustle up delicious family dishes in the fabulous farmhouse kitchen, to long leisurely mealtimes, both inside and out. All five bedrooms are simply stunning and conducive to a good night’s sleep with wrought iron beds and lush linen, plus two of the double rooms really have the wow factor with four poster beds and one even has a private balcony!

To soak up the Tuscany sunshine and gaze on the iconic scenery, the terraced garden at Casa Leana is sheer bliss. On the first terrace children can play on a lawn area while parents watch on from the paved dining patio with a pergola for shade, then on the second terrace there’s a small olive grove and a romantic bench for two, to admire the views in the shade of a gnarly oak.

A heated swimming pool on terrace three, safely fenced and sheltered by the landscaped borders, with loungers for grown ups, pool toys for the children, plus a dining table and barbecue in the shade of a pergola. The fourth terrace is the vegetable garden which guests are welcome to raid and children will especially love plucking and popping in the sun ripened tomatoes and super sweet strawberries. The fifth terrace is set up for outdoor fun with a sand pit, swings and a slide in a play area plus space for badminton, skittles, boules and Nerf gun battles. And for the less energetic, there are two hammocks overlooking the vineyard.

Enclosed within ancient walls, the maze of narrow streets are a delight to stroll around, browsing antique shops, stopping for cappuccinos and gelati in the cafes and choosing one of the many trattorias to enjoy traditional Tuscan cuisine. Anghiari also has a couple of small supermarkets for essentials and groceries, plus there are bigger supermarkets and many more shops in Arezzo and Citta di Castello (20 mins).

One of the greatest pleasures in Tuscany is exploring the countryside on bikes and nine are available for guests to borrow, free of charge, at Casa Leana. There are three beaches to discover close to the historic walled town of Castiglione del Lago and many flock here simply to indulge in long leisurely lunches in fine lakeside restaurants.

Hopping from Tuscany into the Umbria, Perugia, the capital, is approximately an hour’s drive and well worth a trip to explore the medieval walled town of piazzas and palazzos, but also discover the buzzy vibe of a lively university city. Anghiari

Anghiari is our local town which is about a 5 minute drive from Casa Leana. Many festivals are held there throughout the year (details at the house). The panoramic view from Anghiari is truly spectacular, made all the more so by the long, straight road running across the flat floor of the Upper Tiber valley from Sansepolcro and up the steep hill to the town. The view towards Anghiari is equally splendid, with the city walls rising up from a steep spur above the Tiber and the Sovara valleys. Anghiari is rated one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Citerna is the nearest hamlet to ours and houses a grocers shop and three or four fabulous restaurants together with a few other jewellery and knick knack shops. It is high on a hill with wonderful views of the valley. Again, festivals take place throughout the year (details at the house).Arezzo is our nearest major town and is about 20 minutes drive from the house. It is set on a steep hill rising from the floodplain of the Arno - it has many fabulous boutiques and restaurants. There is an excellent market held there on the first Sunday of the month which is said to be the best in Tuscany and many other activities take place throughout the year (details at the house). Siena is also nearby where the Palio di Siena is held - a famous horse race which is held annually in the middle of town. The Mille Miglia which is a famous classic car race usually runs through one of our nearby villages and is an exciting event to watch. These are just examples of the countless festivals and events that take place in the area throughout the season - a list of which you will find at the house. A visit to Florence is another wonderful day out either by train from Arezzo (about 30 minutes) or by car from the house which takes just under an hour. You can take a fast train from Arezzo to Rome (about 1 hour ten minutes journey) where you can spend a day sight seeing.
