The Paphos District

Paphos(Playground of the Gods)was founded in the12th century and the former capital of Cyprus has many historical places of interest, including the Tomb of the Kings Mosaics depicting Dionysus (the God of Wine)Amphitheatre, Medieval fort Byzantine churches,Kykkos monastery,Akamas waterfall,Aphrodite rock, Troodos mountains. This pretty coastal town has been named by UNESCO as a World heritage site.
The old town is a ten minute walk up a slope but well worthwhile and has a weekly market.
A walk/drive along the Tomb of Kings road, will show many lively bars and quality restaurants with a multitude of cuisines, and the harbour area is also an attractive option.
There is the Water Park,Kart racing and you can hire quad buggies to get about.A number of the sandy bays around the town offer watersports and scuba diving-the best beach is Coral Bay which is a 15 minute drive /bus journey.
Paphos enjoys 340 days of sunshine each year and suffers hardly any rain April to October.Temperatures reach the mid 30 degrees Celsius every day in the summer months. However the cooler winter months make walking and cycling ideal activities

Kato Paphos

A hire car is not necessary because the apartment is so well located in relation to so many amenities being so close at hand, whether by pleasurable short walk or catching a bus.A car comes into it's own for families though, playing golf, initial trip to supermarkets(details at base) gathering provisions for an enjoyable self-catering stint and for those who wish to explore the island further.
Car-hire is relatively cheap and cars are driven on the left.A drive into the hills leads you into beautiful countryside and delightful traditional villages where you can enjoy a meal in a taverna with friendly and welcoming locals.English is widely spoken throughout the island
