Other neighbouring dales include Lower Wensleydale, Coverdale, Wharfedale and Uredale.
Lofthouse village is 3 miles down the road and has one pub, The Crown, which serves excellent food and ale. Local places of interest include How Stean Gorge, (known locally as Little Switzerland), with its bridges, caves and gorge walks and a café where lunches and snacks are served. Brimham Rocks, Stump Cross Caverns and the market town of Pateley Bridge are all worth a visit. Gouthwaite Reservoir is a sanctuary for rare bird species.
Slightly further away in Masham visitors can tour the two famous breweries, (Black Sheep and Theakston), each with a visitor centre.
