Le Potager is the smaller of our two gites at La Belardiere. So called because it overlooks the vegetable garden, Le Potager enjoys a pretty walled patio leading to its own private garden, benefiting from the shade of a large walnut tree (which can be very welcome in the height of the summer!). Le Potager shares the near 2 hectares of grounds of La Belardiere with our other gite, Le Verger. This includes a large walled orchard, the pool and sun terrace, games area (boules, table tennis, badminton and garden games) as well as a wood and large field to the rear with wonderful views over the river Creuse Valley.
Inside there is an open plan kitchen/dining area with fully fitted kitchen and separate lounge area. The downstairs floors are tiled throughout and the ceilings are high, giving a genuine feeling of space. The downstairs bedroom is suitable for guests with limited mobility. Upstairs are two en-suite bedrooms, one double and one twin. Throughout there are original beams and original features, providing a character feel to the property.
One comment from a recent guest about their stay in Le Potager:
"When we arrived at La Belardiere, I was quite stunned by the Gites - the buildings and grounds. Kath and Roger have done a beautiful job with their renovation of the old barns and it has quite obviously been a labour of love."

The Loire Valley region
The imposing River Creuse marks the border of the famous Touraine and Poitou regions. At one time, during the reign of Richard the Lionheart, it actually marked the border between England and France! Its is an area steeped in history and rich in heritage. The famous chateaux of the Loire Valley – now a World Heritage Site – are within easy reach.
Pretty villages, some with fascinating cave dwellings, proliferate in the region. With the network of rivers, rolling countryside and forest tracks, there are leisure activities and opportunities to enjoy nature for everyone's taste. And for lovers of food and wine, this is a dream. Traditional markets galore, produce of the highest quality, classic restaurants and, of course, the vineyards of the Loire.
This is rural France, ‘La France Profonde', at its very best!
The village of St Remy sur Creuse is 2 km away, or a picturesque 30 minutes walk through the woods. The settlement dates back a thousand years and is the site of a fascinating series of cave dwellings set into the rocks above the main village. Guided visits are available and there are a number of organised events throughout the year.
The village also boasts a newly refurbished Auberge, offering a range of traditional cuisine at very reasonable prices – or simply a refreshing drink as you watch the world go by.
The larger towns of Descartes (birthplace of philosopher Rene Descartes) and Dange St Romain (both 5 km) offer a full range of facilities including supermarkets, boulangeries, pharmacies, and banks. Bustling Descartes market, held on Sunday mornings, draws people from miles around and is a real social event.

"Beautiful gites in a perfect setting with first class hosts!"
Spotless, stylish, comfortable, airy, spacious and modern accommodation with all the facilities, gadgets, games and bikes you will need while on holiday. A peaceful location surrounded by lovely Touraine contryside, picturesque rivers, empty roads, quaint villages and bustling markets. Central location for visiting the Loire Valley and those chateaux and jardins everyone raves about (personally, ornamental cabbage in full sun doesn't do it for me, strange scent!) Do try the local organic (biologique) rose from Chinon, liquid raspberries, and sold by the charming lady in the wine shop in Descartes. Kath & Roger have thought of everything to make your stay a real treat - we were even allowed to raid the fruit and vegetable garden for the kitchen. A perfect place for couples, families and groups of friends - Just go!
